Simple question

Hello this is my first time growing hydro. my germinated seeds have tails about 4 inches long my rock wool has been soaking. exactly HOW do i put the long ass root in the rock wool. ALSO i have a 400 w metal halide and 1000w HPS. Do i use the 400W MH for the veg or do i just run the HPS through the veg and flower cycle.. On a side note my bubble machine doesnt seem to make a wack of bubbles, but i dunno how many bubbles are needed
THANK YOU

Your seeds should have roots 4mm long, NOT 4 inches, you've waiting too long to plant them. If your roots were as straight as a pencil (which then never are) then I'd tell you to slice your rockwool block open and gently place your rooted seed inside. But given how long your root is, I think you'd best be buying some promix or germ some more seeds.

HB is 100%, but if you have plenty of these 4" seedlings then cut the RW just enough to open it up, soak it in ~ 200 ppm nutes then GENTLY place the seedling in and GENTLY close around the stem. Since they are 4" long, assuming you are using small rw grow cubes, then place the stem so that only ~ 2" sticks out the top, or roughly 1/2" out of the bottom. You only want a tiny portion of the tap root sticking out. I have actually done this successfullyFor

Forgot to mention, be careful not to over/under water and insert cube into a small net pot to hold it together. If needed, fill in with a few balls of hydroton, gravel...

Well actually they were germinating for less than 48 hrs and grew green leaves inside the papertowel...thats the Purps for ya...and i just jammed them into the rockwool cube the best i could n they are goind great with no problems

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Too many people kill off their seeds by handling the taproot. You probably aren't going to be able to get it into the rockwool cube.

What I'd suggest: Plant the seedling into dirt in a small pot or solo cup. (don't forget drainage holes). Let it grow for a couple weeks and establish a root system. After it's got a decent root system, you can take it outta the pot, gently wash the dirt off, and transplant it into hydroton. Another option, Grow it out in soil, and take clones.

Next time, skip the papertowel method. Seeds will sprout no problem in a jiffy pot under a dome.

edit: oh, youi already jammed it in the rockwool cube. Well, if it lives, then more power to ya. Next time germ your seeds in growing medium

If anyone does follow Clown's advise, use the seed starter mix potting soil. It washes away from the roots cleanly once you are ready to transplant.

:bigjoint:Well I have cut half way through the rockwool cube to the center with a razor blade. Cracked it open put the root about mid way down, closed the rockwool cube with some tape and transplanted it. Granted its not the way you want to do things but, your in wierd situation, so try what you can. Use the MH for the veg and the HPS for the flowering. And as far as the the air stone. In my oppinion the more bubbles the better, thats how you oxygenate the water to prevevnt the roots from drounnning. Get yourself a decent air pump and air stone, it does have to be the most expensive, but not the cheapest either. Good Luck
