Simple Reasoning

I am a Christian but an open minded and often stoned one.

From time to time I find it necessary to contemplate the opposite of my assumptions of what happens after I die. And I was thinking of a sort-of-hopeful scenario for atheists who wish to live again. And while contemplating the possibilities one logical (and hopefully original) conclusion manifested itself in my THC soaked brain. And it is this:

When you think of the word supernatural we think of miracles and things of the impossible occurring. But how do you define supernatural? Tell someone a mere 100 years ago that in a century people will be able to go to the moon, move information effortlessly thousands of miles instantly, and create photo realistic images of other worlds and realities. Would they think this is not only impossible but maybe supernatural? I mean this person would only know cold primitive steel and wood everything, it would be hard for them to even imagine something like that. And this is only a hundred years ago. So now, imagine how this world might be (if we do not nuke the shit out it) in 1000 years? I mean right now, your craziest imagination cannot fathom what will be possible, new words will exist, physical laws, etc. And this is where I drew my conclusion from.

What if when you die, you experience what seems to be a brief moment of nothing, just as if you had passed out. Then after this brief moment of nothing you awake, in a future where the technology to bring back people is readily possible. Now, I mean, a future so advanced that if it were explained to us (the technology) we could never understand it as we stand now. And this makes sense because describing a cell phones technology would befuddle anyone born in the 1700's. Even now, humanity cherishes life and more importantly youth. Technologies are already here that can replace various human parts imagine these technologies in a thousand years. We would be gearing ourselves to not only achieve immortality but to create it.

I think you are on to something here, or just really stoned...Chiceh :peace:

immortality is a dream. longer life span is possible with high technology. but immortality is a merely wish of self-aware beings.

at death, our physical matter breaks down into energy, which will one day fuel the creation and sustenance of other living things. this is the only immortality there is. parts of many others make us up. and parts of us will make up others.

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
- Arthur C. Clarke

Our technology progresses exponentially. When we started out, all we had was the power of our own muscles. Nothing more. Fast forward thousands of years and we learned to master horses, wheels, winds. Mankind no longer relied only on human muscle. We entered the world of horsepower. fast forward another few thousand years. Say hello to my combustion engine. Good bye single horse power transportation. Now we can fit hundreds of horsepower into a small mechanical engine. Now only a few hundred years, rockets, jet engines, NUCLEAR POWER. What is this now? 10's of thousands of horsepower? Millions of horsepower?

It took us thousand of years to go from our hands to a horse... But only a few HUNDRED years to go from 15hp engines to million horsepower atomic/hydrogen bombs. This is why I believe in people, not Gods.

I do mean immortality. And yes it is a dream and that is why man will achieve it.

And this context in which I speak is, as said before, A THOUSAND YEARS OR MORE AWAY! Any sort of application of what YOU know NOW to this future I speak of is like having George Washington predict Wi-Fi. And its because what YOU know NOW is not all that there will ever be.

And I really do like that Arthur C. Clarke quote.

most of us will never be brought back to life or made immortal, no matter if we have the tech or not. overpopulation would be crazy, imagine how many planets we could fill up in a few hundred years.

really cool to see a christian actually considering alternate views, and on top of that actually creating their own. i dont know anybody that willingly contemplates opposite ideas of their own, let alone anybody that calls them self a person of faith.

It's a good thing we have a universe worth of planets then! :)

I believe that immortality is possible. With the mapping of the human genome, millions of doors were opened. one of these concerns the quest for immortality.

With the aging gene recognised we have already created a tablet that can slow this gene down giving somebody an extra 20 years of life. Oxygen is actually slowly poisoning us to death, which is why antioxidants have been found to help lengthen life. Incidentally, tea is often quite high in these antioxidants.
