Slow Growth?

Background - Very first grow
# of Plants - 6
Soil - Roots Organic
ph - Have been giving 6.5 ph'd distelled water - (was using well water with 6.5 ph)
pots - 7g felt smart pots (they started in dixie cups and have been xplanted up a few times)
lights - under 600 watt hps about 3 ft from plants
vent - 450 cfm air cooled hood with carbon filter with 2 fans circulating air on inside
grow room - 4.5 x 4.5 x 6.5 grow tent
temp/humidity - 70-80 F / 40-60% H Day Time - 64-72 F / 40-60% H Night Time
Nutes - Botanicare Nutrients - Received their first "real" dose of nutes today: (1ml/gal) Cal-Mag, (.5 ml/gal) Superthrive, (2.5ml/gal) Pure Blend Pro, Distilled Water ph'd 6.5 - 1 Gallon per plant
Additional Notes - Have topped all but 1 plant.
I started 5 of these plants on 3/3/14. And the last one on 3/10/14.

Past Info:

I've had a WPM issue (squashed that shit real quick before it did any damage or spread to any plants)
I've had a moisture issue (left my humidifier on twice during sleep cycle didn't realize it wasn't on timer)
I've had a light burn issue (had lights to close to plant for 1 day)
I've had an overwatering issue (figured that out within the first week of seedling stage)

I know I've had countless mess-ups this grow and I didn't expect my first grow to be amazing. I learn from doing. So I do not plan on having these issues or making the same mistakes the second time around as I've take a lot of notes!
Sum It Up:

My problem is I believe these plants should be much bigger at the 38 day mark.. Any suggestions to improve growth here? I know it's a waiting game at this point, but I still feel like I am so far behind and growth is staggering.

The light could be 2' above the plants I use 400 watts I'll keep it at 15" you'll need a fan blowing in-between the light and plants. You just fed for the first time? I use the sunshine mix 4 the first two weeks with plain water the first week and 300 ppm the 2nd week and ffof the 15th day after they have 3 sets of real leaves using plain water the first two watering. I'm using Advanced Nutes Sensi Gro voodoo juice and B-53~

Well I did a partial feed earlier on, but ended up burning the crap out of my babies. Roots Organic soil has a lot of time released ferts and as I was transplanting, I couldn't just load them up with nutes without burning them. I've heard countless good things about the soil I'm using, but honestly it will not be something I start my plants in again, way too time release nute heavy. (definitely a hassle on a first grow).

I meant to put I am using Botanicare nutes. Not Advanced. Sorry about that!

Here is the nute chart I am following excluding the Aqua Shield as I didn't think I needed it with the Hygrozyme. (same thing guy at hydro store recommended cutting as well)

Maybe you should use Advance Nutes, you should use the sunshine mix 4 for starting and germination no nutes in it at all your dirt is similar to my ffof you have to start off in something else~

Roots Organic soil does not contain time release fertilizers but it is too hot to start seedlings in. Did you transplant from the party cups to the large smart pots? If so, it is common to see slow top side growth when you transplant into extremely large containers because the roots are doing most of the growing filling out the pot. Normally this is followed by really fast top side growth. So this may explain a little of your slow growth.

Add in the oopsies you mentioned and topping them and that probably explains where they are at. I would expect to see some pretty explosive growth shortly if all is now good.

Thanks Bugeye for that great response buddy. I went from dixie cup to 1g to the 7g felt pots, so yeah I did make a pretty big jump there.

I am now realizing it is too hot for seedlings. Any suggestions on a starting medium for seedlings next grow?

Yes, any seedling starter mix is good. These mixes have very little nutrient but good aeration and water retention. I bought a 2.8 cu ft bag of Fafard 4P mix about 10 years ago and still have half left! I use mine in starter trays only and transplant at about 2 weeks into party cups that are half seedling mix half nutrient loaded soil. I'll then go to a 1 gallon pot, 5 gallon pots, and then to final homes in greenhouse bays.
