Slow seedling growth and few shriveling

this is my second grow and im stuck on whats goin on with my seedlings...I am having issues with my seedlings. they germinated in 3 days, planted them and all of them broke the dirt within another 3 days. Well now they have been growing for a lil over 1 1/2 weeks, and show not much growth or change from the first couple days. Also one has yellow tips, while another just started shriveling up and the rest appear light green. I have yet to water them cuz the organic dirt im using was very moist to being with. I guess the only problem i seen with what i have done this far is been pouring tap water in the drainage tray to keep moisture up in the room. (pics below)

Specs:
20 seedlings in solo cups with bottom and side drainage
400w MH (raised at a good level, cuz they are still seedlings)
fan keeping air flow
temp: 78-81
Humidity: around 40%
lights on 24 hours (risky move i kno, but i did it with my last grow and it worked fine)

PLEEEASE HELP!!!

Why is 24 hr lighting risky? You def want to veg @ 24hrs unless your trying to save a couple bucks on electricity .. As far as height you want your 400 about 2-3ft from seedlings. They look fine to me in the pics other than the tip burns. Are you feeding?

It's gotta be a soil/root issue, your air and light info sounds fine. What sort of soil is that? Seed starter soil should be very light, loose, and somewhat fine. Is it too wet/standing water at bottom of cups? Do the cups have drainage holes? I'd cut some if they don't, and then water them with a solution of 1/4 strength grow nutrient with one ounce of 3% regular bathroom peroxide per half gallon, peroxide can help revive oxygen deprived roots. That's my best guess...

With drain holes in cups don't leave them in standing water, they'll get to wet.

Actually, no. 24 hrs of light.. isn't recommended. Despite what you may "think".

The leafs on the plant.. store energy that they receive from the lights. They DO in fact need some down time (dark cycle) in order to properly process the energy that they have soaked up throughout the day time. I know, I know, I'm going to catch some arguments over this.. but I know quite a bit about botany and I know for a fact that a plant NEEDs to have some down time during the 24hr cycle.

If you, (human).. didn't get any sleep for a week or two straight.. your going to get tired.. right?? Right. Same thing goes for the plant..

just trying to help educate. :)

Do whatever you want though.. ;)

peace.

PS - Almost forgot to address the light issue. Your using too high of a wattage for those young sprouts man.. honestly. You should never just immediately put a young sprout under that amount of wattage. You should always start with a small amount of light.. and as the plant works up to getting use to that amount.. and matures a little.. then it will be ready for more wattage. Once again, just trying to help educate. :) peace..

Risky is the wrong word, just based off of research its up for debate on whether in them some darkness is better...nways no nutes yet but stongly considering low dose...i got fox farm veg nutes. your right they look fine, but for almost 2 weeks growth they should be much further along based off my last grow and research....whats ur take on the stunted growth?

To each his own. But it has been proven that plants grow 30-35% more vigorously under a 24/7 lighting schedule. And plants are not humans even though we somtimes treat them as they are. So there life necessities will differ from ours or any other species for that matter.

Risky wasn't my wording it was the op. And every strain is different.. So unless we have experience with the strains he is using then it is hard to say where they should be right now. As long as your plants are showing new healthy growth then everything is cool . The whole process is a waiting game. but once they take off they really take off!

Looks more like a PH issue, they do not need nutes in soil. Also what type of soil are you using?

the soil is Miracle-Gro® Organic Choice® Potting Mix....and yes the cups have drainage holes on the bottom and sides, i have been keepin standing water in in the run off trays every few days...so im with you there i think its a root issue...whats your take on the yellowing one and the shriveling up one?

All of the changes that are taking place are behind the scenes bro. That's why they haven't shown any growth in the past few days because all your growth is happening in the roots.. After they root they will start taking off to where your noticing changes daily. The yellowing could also be lack of nitrogen .

Thanks for your insight...going back to what chemdawg and i were talking bout, my lighting situation is risky (although i have the MH up pretty high) but needed seeing as though i have a lil bit of a time constrant so im trying to veg these babies as fast as possible.

btw thanks everyone for you help! i plan on starting a grow journal soon...I got all my seeds from the tude: G13's blueberry gum and midnight kush and world of seeds collection strawberry blue, plus the freebies.

More than enough nutes in that soil, maybe even too much. Did you use it before?
Yeah prob enough roots its got 3 months worth, ive used a very similar Miracle-Gro potting mix that was no organic and worked great...so prob not doin nutes for a bit...whats ur take on hydrogen peroxide to revitalize the roots? cuz im thinkin thats what is wrong.

Yeah miracle grow has been known to scorch seedlings. But The new growth looks green and that's what matters . For a week and a half those things seem to be fine to me..

I'm putting my money on the PH is off and no don't add hydrogen peroxide to it.

Man i can tell its the soil you are using. It looks like you snagged some dirt from your back yard or something. go to a farm supply store and pick up some fox farm ocean forest or happy frog. transplant them into this soil and just give them plain water for the whole veg period. make sure your ph is correct and your plants will go crazy on you.

I'm having an almost carbon copy of your situation. My 9 day old seedlings:

When do you plan to move them to a bigger container? What about starting to add nutes? I'm a little grey on this myself but maybe ours are becoming somewhat root bound from the small cups..

For the record I'm using Fox Farm, it seems like maybe some strains are just slower to start than others. From what I've read the growth should accelerate rapidly once transplanted and entering veg stage. Good lock with your babies brother!
