Small Buds

Hi

Does anyone have any tips to get bigger buds? I just use the A&B flower and grow nutes only and haven't tried the stuff like "Big bud", "Bonza bud" or any sort of bud nutes, so I wonder if they really work?

I seem to be getting small buds and wonder what sort of things I could be doing - or if there is anything I can do to get the buds bigger.

peace :joint:

I'm using a 600w HPS. How can you tell when the bulb needs replacing? using the same light I was getting slightly bigger buds a few months ago.

Is there anything I can do to get bigger buds?

HPS are great lights, but maybe you should try MH for the veg state and then switch to HPS for flower.
MH spectrum is more essential for vegitive growth. Also you should try supercropping your plants or tying the plant down so that the lower nodes get more light and essentially give you more main tops and fat buds.
How far is your light from the plant, is it lankey?

I use big buds and notice a huge difference in bud size. Also if you want you can add molasses. And from what ive been told hps bubs can last for a year before needing change

So you reckon they work then and recommend I get some?

I love my lollipops because they are just pure dense bud... and easy to trim...

1/2 to 3/4 oz each... and you can have an army of them.... (Al B. Fuct was getting 1 pound every 2weeks... check my sig for his link)

These were some of the last harvest (every 2 weeks  I love it)... and I am still fine tuning things...

I have a 900 x 900 box with a 400w HPS for vegging and a 1200x1200 box with a 600w HPS for flowering. I have a small home made cloning box with a 25w CFL for my clones, could I run this 2 week process with what I have - or would I need to get a couple more boxes going?

I'm thinking of trying some of the big bud nutes and see if I can get some bigger buds. I also think I should be doing the fimming and topping to get some more arms and hopefully more yield from my plants.

How are you growing? soil or hydro?

Either way.. figure out how many plants you can flower at once and ivide that by 4... feed that many clones every two weeks and you have a perpetual...

It could be 1 plant every 2 weeks or 3500... up to you...:-P

I'm growing in soil but would be prepared to switch to whatever would give me a few oz every couple of weeks.

I'm flowering in a 1200 x 1200 box under a 600w HPS how could I work out how many I could grow in that room?

One more thing too, if I was to try this method of cutting the lower branches and leaves wouldn't I be a chance of turning them hermie through stress?

Depends on how your growing. If you are trimming so that you only have a few top colas - pack them in as tight as you can -
If you want more branches to grow - space them a foot apart. Its really the same yield either way, but trimming down to
a few good lollipops will give you really fat buds !

Nope - just try not to remove more than 25% of the plant at a time and you should be fine !

Well, then I recommend Ebb Flow SOG Lollipops

1200x1200 meaning 1.2mx1.2m?

If youare doing lollipops like I am, you can grow as many as you have room for pots...

I use 1 gallon pots and the plants are fine with that much space...

Cram them in there until there is no more room...

But if you bring your light down for MAX INTENSITY, you may have to eliminate the outer most rows... or deal with less than ideal buds...

No, they will not turn hermie...

When I take clones from a mom... I take everything... I leave the tiny little new growth.. I wipe out 90% easy if not more.. not a single drag queen in the mom's room... or the flower room for that matter...

Right... you can have many small buds or one big bud...

... here is the way Al B. Fuct put it...

Is ebb and flow hard and expensive to set up?

1200x1200 meaning 1.2mx1.2m?
Yeah the room is 1.2 x 1.2 meters

How big is your flower area? how many pots do you harvest every 2 weeks?

Can I experiment with a couple in soil? How tall should I start one and how many of the lower branches do I cut off? I guess you snip the branches off slowly?

If I set up that ebb and flow I'd need clay rock pebbles and nothing but nutes wouldn't I?

P.S how many grams did you get off the two plants you have pictured there?? I must say they look great !!

No... not hard at all...

look at this...

How do I make an ebb & flow
hydroponic system?

The goal: To demonstrate the construction of an Ebb & Flow hydroponic system.

The system being constructed is small, however the design is the same as larger systems.

Parts list...

  • Restaurant bus tub, 15 1/2" x 20 1/2" x 4 1/2", flood tray.
  • Restaurant bus tub, 15 1/2" x 20 1/2" x 7", reservoir.
  • Reservoir lid, 15 3/4" x 22".
  • Overflow fitting.
  • Fill/drain fitting.
  • Water pump, 70 gph.
  • Tubing, 1/2" ID.
  • Aquarium air pump.
  • Air stones.
  • Green air line.

Notice, in the pictures above, the one inch holes, in the flood tray for the overflow, and fill/drain fittings, also, the two inch holes in the lid, for the fittings to pass through.

A view of the plumbed flood tray with lid. See how it fits over the fittings.

This is a view of the reservoir with lid, and plumbed flood tray.

Here, it's all assembled. The water and air pumps are not shown. The power cord, and air lines fit between, the reservoir and lid. A small notch may need to be added, to avoid pinching the air lines, and to help the flood tray sit level.

Assembled with six 5 1/2" square pots. Notice the easy access to both fittings. The fill/drain fitting has a connector for a 1/2" hose, under the screen. Remove the screen, connect the hose, turn the pump on, and pump out the nutrient solution. Makes reservoir change outs very easy.

    Another view of the system.

    Note: Choosing a container...

Not all containers are made equal. Some are very sturdy, while others are not. Using a weak container will only lead to failure and a flood. Choose heavy duty containers. Also, some containers will need a center support to keep them level under the weight of the nutrient solution.

    Note: About sizes...

The reservoir should be large enough, to hold two, to three times the volume of the flood tray or table. The pump should be sized to flood the tray in 5 min. or less.

Yeah the room is 1.2 x 1.2 meters
Good ... you can cram a lot of lollipops in there...

How big is your flower area? how many pots do you harvest every 2 weeks?
Uh. I have 3 4x4 trays with 3 600s...

working on getting 15 a week...

Can I experiment with a couple in soil?
Sure... you have my permission...:o lol...

How tall should I start one and how many of the lower branches do I cut off?
Figure they double in size... I start at 10" to finish at 20".. but the world is not perfect and they do not all grow exactly the same...

I have miniatures that I flower at 1"...:weed:

I guess you snip the branches off slowly?
I usually do it fast... no sense in prolonging the process

If I set up that ebb and flow I'd need clay rock pebbles and nothing but nutes wouldn't I?
Well you need lots of things... clay pellets (hydroton), pots (NOT netpots), nutes, pH and PPM meter, and all the STUFF on needs to grow...

P.S how many grams did you get off the two plants you have pictured there?? I must say they look great !!
Those 2 are AL's plants... I said it just before the illustration...

"Here is how Al put it...."

Can you see the difference in the 2 though????

one still has the bottom branches.. and a spindly top...

The other has no bottom branches and a fat cola...

The 2 weigh the same... but one has a single big bud.. and the other has a bunch of fluffy stuff...

These are mine... and I got 1/2 to 3/4 per lollipop...
