small HPS bulbs queston

I see some smaller 150w HPS lights have a "medium base" that fits standard household lights, instead of the mogul base. Do you need a ballast or anything if you buy one of these bulbs, or could I just screw it in to a normal light socket?

Here's what I am talking about.

needs a ballast... i believe it needs an S55 type.

if a HID does not need a ballast it is because it has it built in, and then, rest assured marketing will have that feature plastered all over the place
