Smallest Grow Area for a 1000w HPS

So i recently ran into a super deal on craigslist.

i got a lumatek ballast 1000 watt, EyE hortilux super hps, and reflector for 200$

the ballast and the relfector didnt have the same plug, but im assuming when i go to the hydroshop i can find a converter..

i wasnt expecting to run into such a deal and i was only going to get a 400 watt for my closet

its dimensions are 4x3x7

i have a 6'' inline fan[hydro farms] and a carbon filter [activ air] running though my reflector

1000W covers 4x4 perfectly. You got lucky, 400w would have been pitiful in that space.
Good luck finding an adapter for the plugs. Sounds like a new cord is in your future. About$45. 6in. fan may be a bit taxed for a 1000w.
Good luck,
Fred

Depends on how plan on venting that heat. 1000 watts is hot for a small enclosed area like that, especially since I assume your growing in a closet of some sort? I agree with Fred, I don't think that the 6" online is gong to cut it, you'll need something to pull the heat out of that room.

Also, I would be a little suspicious about that equipment, how did the guy have it with mis matched plugs? You can buy adapters, but he should have had those already. I would suspect that he didn't want to have to prove it worked. Could be a burned out bulb or ballast. I hope not, but just sounds fishy.

If you notice any weird issues and the growth is stunted, I would suspect the light has been used a lot and needs to be replaced. Also be careful that the ballast doesn't look burned or blackened near where the ballast connects to reflector.

Heat is really going to be your enemy. Good luck, keep it green.

thats awesome! i am glad i ran into that deal. defintly saved me lots of money

i think its about 10$ i think this it?

i can just adjust the light a little higher so it wont burn the plants. right?

well i didnt explain it exactly right

he gave me the ballast, bulb and socket for 150$ all which i tested and works.

i got the relfector at my local hydro shop for 50$ the socket in the reflector isnt the same as the one i got and i dont think i can change them out.

all of the stuff he gave me is actually brand new. it was won in a storage auction and then put it on craigslist because he didnt know how much it was worth

shit! well ima have to get alot of tower fans on the light to help keep the heat out.

As long as you have enough exhaust or ideally a cool tube (which saddens me in taking the UV superiority away from MH bulbs) then that is perfect. Your plants should be very lush. Your PROBLEM is going to be actually moving around the room... Functionally, you can only really have 3X3 feet of plant space in a 4X4 foot space, and that's pushing it. Am I understanding this space correctly? Nonetheless, that 3X3 feet will be incredibly budded, I'd figure you could get a pound out of there if you really do it right.

Just harvested my first crop under a 1000 watt hps in a 5x7 closet. In a cold state and i had heat problems. I even kept the doors of the closet open, three big fans blowing. My indica is bomb, but my two sativa strains were real dried out. I'm new but I think it was the heat. Good luck.

High heat is the enemy of all small gardens. The ONLY way to effectively cool that small space with 1000W is with 2 inline fans.Using tower fans only moves the heat around, doesn't remove it. Use the existing 6in. connected to a filter to exhaust room air. Use another fan, preferably an 8in to exhaust the lights on a closed circuit. The air in the fan circuit never interacts with room air. Straight in, through the lights and straight out of the room. I helped a friend set up a 2x6 closet this way with 2x600W and it runs cool even in August.
A smaller light, 400W, would allow you to use only one fan, the 6in. Problem is, you sacrifice light intensity and of course yield. With a little practice and the right genetics, you should yield significantly more than a pound with 1000W.
Good luck,
Fred

I completely disagree. 2 inline fans is fancier than necessary, you're doubling your costs on a very expensive item. One inline fan will be enough to exhaust, and the cracks in the door will be good enough for drawing fresh air from whatever room is next to your grow... closet... room? Well you're name's ClosetCoco, so I'm gonna go with "closet", hehe!.

I am sad to recommend a company that I have a bone to pick with... HTG Supply. You can get the fan AND a cooltube on there for under $200, hook that up to some cheap 6" ducting and that will all be more than you need to cool the space. Whomever it was that said 6" might not be enough is also incorrect I'm afraid, I vent my 1000W with a 6" HTG inline fan hooked up to a speed controller, and I have literally NEVER needed the fan to operate at full speed, even while hooked up to a cumbersome charcoal filter.

id say invest in a cool tube for that space so u can use more of ur space.. and have the heat from the light be exhausted out ..

im agreeing with ^^^^
