whats up with them, i just moved into a new place and starting to learn about these things. ive read that they can monitor to the hour if not minute what kind of power is being drawn and possibly narrow it down to exact specs. as far as what rooms and devices are being used... ive searched threads but havent found anything that anyone has CONFIRMED!!! any inpu or thought? any personal incidents!?!

im running 2 1000 and a 400, and a cfl.....although its prob not no where near what other people are running, but whos on these smart meters and what are you running, and for how long have you had it and running frm it?

im not that worried, but def worried enough to do a lil research, lol.
thanks RIU

It sounds like a lot of possibilities, but nobody has ever heard of anyone being in trouble from a smart meter. If you're already in shit with the cops for growing, they can look at your smart meter's information and show exactly when you run your lights and for how long etc.

But in the USA, a power bill isn't a cause for a warrant. You can be running anything for 18 hours a day, a TV on a timer so people think you're there, or a base heater, I'm sure you could think of more that would be of the same wattage that could just so happen to be running for 18 hours a day.

In Canada it's different. The electric company will forward any suspicious activity to the police. You're safe with even a couple 1000 watters, they're looking for huge whole house grow ops. But the people who do these house ops now use huge generators.

One way around this that I thought of is to use a timer that has a week's worth of settings. One day give it 18 hours, the next day give it 16 and 45 minutes, or what ever you want. Just keep changing it daily, it won't really matter. You could even do more than 18 hours on. Then when you're in flower, do the same thing but just keep the lights on for less than 12 hours.

Around here the main rationale for Smart Meters is no need to send someone to read the meter. In a way, that makes it safer ... one less official trespasser ... cn

I had a tech come to the hood wanting to install a smart meter on my house. I told him I didn't want one and he noted that on a pad and left. A month later a guy comes out and reads my meter. That's what I know

well i dont exactly live where i can be a legal caregiver, lol. i just plan on paying the bill on time every month. right now my meter reads 3107 KW, just made me concerned, seemed a lil high, but im not a power guy so i honestly wouldnt know. i kinda peeked at my neighbors to get an idea, ones is at like 1400, the other is at around 4000, so i guess im good, just a lil paranoid i guess.

A smart meter can keep track of how much power at what time of day you use, and that in turn can be used to help people determine when to try to conserve energy. They have no way of knowing whAt is using the power, just that at "x" time of day it's more or less than others.
