Windowsill grower here- Small (upto 1 foot tall so far) Just showing pistons and starting to see crystals.

At what point do they start smelling? is it when pistons appear or is it later on? My sense of smell isnt the best and while im here apart from smelly flowers and those smell catcher block things, does anyone have ideas for concealing smells?

I was thinking about the following;

* A zip up green house and maybe fix a large plastic bag underneath bottom of frame to stop smell creeping out. but will this make the plants sweat too much?

* Some of those fuzzy things around door frame of room that are normally used to stop drafts?

Bagging the plant prevents air from getting in. Plants need air as much as you do
 
Hey BB84, do you have any pics of your plant or do you know how old it is or what strain it might be? Just trying to figure out what stage of growth you're at so can assess when your plant might start to put out some smells. It will vary from strain to strain too, some are very smelly when growing and some not so much. Also those tiny white hairs are Pistils and not Pistons my friend.

Pistils lol thats the name i needed.

Strains- Ive not gone for any skunks or anything labelled as cheese or diesel to be safe. Ive done a sativa, an Indica and an Indica/Sativa

I planted them start to mid June and going by last years time scale dont expect them to be ready till start of November. Might see 3 gram off each if lucky but never the less a small smell is still a smell.

I think you should be OK with those little plants, as KillaCarta said they'll prob only yield a few grams anyway so I'm sure even just a few air fresheners will cover any marijuana smells. In a few weeks when they're getting more developed and more trichomes start to form is when smells will be coming, but those size plants shouldn't put out too much of a stink.

Cheers for the info learnt something new didnt know they only smell in daytime. Haha i know its tiny. The others arnt much bigger luckily im a low user

OK.

Indeed probs just 2 gram of that tiddler im gonna call it junior. The others may give more. probs get half an ounce total
 
Heres last years if interested. Actually got 5 gram off it shame this years is no where as good. Strangely this year i used perlite, better soil and bigger pot like everyone said.

You also need more light if you are going to give it a bigger pot to fill. Given the same light as last year, it didn’t produce as much vegetation (and bud) because it was spending all the energy it could muster trying to fill the pot.
 
Another question if u dont mind- once the plants start showing pistils and go into bud stage do they still keep growing new leaves or is that it for leaves? ive forgotten from last years plant.

oh man i knew i shouldnt have listened to those guys. I did tell them im just doin windowsill grow in UK but i kept getting stick and they kept saying bigger pot and lights etc lol. I was thinking the same as u recently about size of pot, but at lease ive got 5 on the go so even if 2 grams each thats double last yrs crop :)

Probably overwatered.... How often did you water? Window sills arent known for good grows lol. As far as smell, the only thing that takes care of that is a carbon filter & fan. I have them all over the house.

i watered everyday which was too much so now just when feels dry. LOL wont need anything that big for smells. Windowsill is just the most convenient for me, it will do

I found that my indoor sunshine grows really didn't start to smell strong until about a month old or so.......they do smell stronger when the sun shines directly on them.

It's not easy to control the smell in a windowsill environment, as you need your windows open for the fresh air, thus using a filter to control the smell in the entire room would be a rather futile effort.....personally I don't like the smell of ONA gel, thus would not recommend it

Why do you need to open the windows for fresh air? The plants freshen the air for you! It gets very cold here for months at a time (no opening windows for 4-5 months cold) and having a tent of plants keeps my entire house nice and fresh.
