24 strait through , why give the dark at all? all the dark does is slow down the plants nute water intake and stop it from growing, it will stretch yeah but is that a good thing? i dont know . theres a mil dif reasons for light times. money. neighbors scared your house will burn down while your at work.

I don't have an air-cooled hood, so heat is an issue for me. 18 hours is about as much as my tent can handle and I'd like to run the AC as little as possible.

I'm using 24/0 and I've thought about trying 18/6. For auto-flowering strains they recommend 20/4 but I've never heard of 17/7. Where did you come up with that? Are you just messin' with us?

too little light and they will start to flower. same with quantity of light. not enough and they will start to flower. Give it at least 18/6. Though for all reasons 24/0 makes most sense to me, sorry man, but you will have a lot more fun being able to visit them whenever you want. No chance of hermies either.

The dark does do something actually, it slows down growth yeah but it also promotes root growth. Which in turn, leaves more rootage for water, nutes ect... meaning while the lights are back on, the plant will produce much more overall. It be best to go 18/6 for the first month to establish a decent root system. Then, switch to 20/4. This will give you more light, and also give you a little bit of dark for extra root growth and a bit of electricity savings as to 24/0 will put your power bill through the roof

Decent root systems are created just fine under 24/0, but sure, your electricity will cost 25% more than 18/6.

I just did an experiment and used 16/8 in one environment, and 20/4 in the other....... in past grows I've used 19/5

I guess it really doesn't matter, so to the OP, of course we all agree that 17/7 is the very best cycle for vegging...there not much we don't all agree upon
