So if you're conservative you're just dumb?

Unbelievable, but it did come out of Canada.

There's no gentle way to put it: People who give in to racism and prejudice may simply be dumb, according to a new study that is bound to stir public controversy.

The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice, Hodson wrote in an email to LiveScience.

"Prejudice is extremely complex and multifaceted, making it critical that any factors contributing to bias are uncovered and understood," he said.

Hodson was quick to note that the despite the link found between low intelligence and social conservatism, the researchers aren't implying that all liberals are brilliant and all conservatives stupid. The research is a study of averages over large groups, he said.
"There are multiple examples of very bright conservatives and not-so-bright liberals, and many examples of very principled conservatives and very intolerant liberals," Hodson said.

I get called a conservative and a liberal. I just want to be called a Libertarian. I could careless what anyone does as long as it doesn't involve me.

I'm glad the knife cuts both ways for libs and conserv. No one is perfect.

It's pretty simple math imo. People with less intelligence will obviously believe things that others are too smart to fall for. They also seem to be more afraid of change or the unknown. So, dummy + fear of change = conservative.

what about people who blindly believe in religion? is that a sign of stupid? most conservatives are overtly religious
I think 'blindly' is the key word here. I believe most people believe in religion because they come from thousands of years of people telling you to fear the hoogie boogie or you're fucked. I have a theory that most atheists or agnostics know FARRRRR more about religion as a whole than the people who claim to be religious. Most people who would call themselves Christians don't know what the inside of a bible looks like, much less what it says. Or how ridiculously long after Christ died the New Testament was written, etc.
I'm pretty sure that if someone took the time to compile a factual case against religion, I could successfully argue it and convince all but the very most hardheaded people on Earth.

dummy + food stamps = Obama
I didn't vote for Mr. Obama. I would have in this upcoming election because any Republican is toxic to any American that earns under a million a year. But, the President fucked any chance he had of getting my vote by allowing the pit bulls in the Dept. of Justice to continue raping Americans over a plant when he campaigned saying he wouldn't.

You might be surprised to hear that I consider myself more Libertarian than anything, but the political system here in the States is a two party ONLY sport, so people like me usually have to try and wade thru the big party bullshit and find qualities we like from one of the two dancing donkeys we are offered as candidates.
I'll probably waste my vote one of two ways this time: Voting for the best man for the job who has zero chance of ever getting it (Ron Paul) or a symbolic vote like Leonard Peltier or maybe my own deceased hero, Swampy.

i don't think it's a secret that blind prejudice is linked to lower intellegence. ignorance in general can be linked to lower intellegence. people who are dumb are unlikely to even realize that there is a bigger truth, let alone seek it out.

the social conservatism link is a touchy one. a similar link could be made to the religious community (who happens to comprise a large section of social conservatives), but since that was conveniently left out of the article (i read the whole thing), i can only surmise that the study or the article had biased intentions from the start.

on the other hand, it was mentioned that "a study of left-wing liberals with stereotypically naïve views like "every kid is a genius in his or her own way," might find that people who hold these attitudes are also less bright. In other words, it might not be a particular ideology that is linked to stupidity, but extremist views in general"

i think that it's more likely that these are emotionally driven biases based on life experiences. it just so happens that social conservatives tend to be found in areas that are predominantly white and religious so their views tend to reflect this.

i think simply subscribing to a staunch political view that you will not bend on makes you an idiot, regardless of whether your ideas come from the right or left. it's the whole sticking your fingers in your ears and not listening to others that makes you an idiot. i really dont think that that type of thing is limited to conservatives.

I loved college because at that level people are less ready to judge by appearances. Someone who looks very ordinary or messy might be a genius. Or the ones you thought were smart might be off the charts smart.

I went to an AG college and some of the smartest people I meet were farmers. Pretty much level headed, money conscience, forward thinking, good at handling complex multi-year programs. Of course, there was always the gomers that were dumber than a box of rocks. Most believed in God and Country and, quite frankly, I see nothing wrong with that.

But very few were judged. I don't think conservative or liberal had anything to do with it. And those things might just hangover for the rest of their lives.

Colleges are notorious for being lib and people think just because you went college you must be a lib, too. Not the case.

Obama is a lot of things. But dumb is not one of them. You are not appointed President of the Harvard Law Review for D grades.

If republicans stood for what they started out standing for 150 years ago, it is possible they would get my vote depending on the nominees platform.

As it stands now, they are just disgustingly obvious mouthpieces for the the incredibly wealthy to continue eating bigger and bigger shares of the pie at the expense of normal people like us. They call themselves job creators...why is that that since 1987 the tax code has been incredibly (to a point silly) skewed towards them and yet by the end of Dubyas 8 years job creation was 2.3 million.

Do you know how many jobs the president who got his pecker pulled created? 23.1 million.

Just because you are conservative... doesn't automatically make you racist or dumb.
I hate shit like this... classic propaganda shit.
I know a lot of liberals that are racist and dumb too.
Doesn't matter what political party or race you belong too.
All are guilty and so am I.

Stupid is as stupid does

There isn't anyone running on their party I'd vote for. I would vote for Paul if he'd have a little backbone on foreign policy, not a lot just a little.

I haven't decided who yet.
