Just tell them to send that gym membership money my way, they wont be going to the gym after a few weeks anyway. Why? Because they never watch what they shove down their throats and it ultimately leads to their failure.
Venting. All machines were occupied this morning, and the smell of 5 dollar coffees and the chatter of hopefuls filled the air. Saw a pepsi bottle next to a guy struggling with some weighted lunges, one of those huge cans of Arizona tea sitting inside a water bottle holder on a treadmill, and who knows who was hiding what in their brand new gym bags. Usually this doesn't start til after the first of the year, but I guess its on a week early. Time to dust off the home equipment until the pretenders get done with their annual attempt.
If you are serious, this battle is won in the kitchen. Calories in, calories out. Best starting point for most people. This is a lifestyle change, and it takes time. For weight loss, set yourself up at a 500+ calorie deficit and watch the pounds drop week by week. Average adult male is going to burn about 2000 calories in a day just sitting on their ass doing literally nothing (BMR). A mile run burns 100ish calories. A 12 ounce soda as 150 calories. IPA beers are around 200 calories per 12 ounces. Is 12 ounces of soda/beer worth running your ass off for over an hour just to get back where you started? Sure, you might of strengthened some muscles, but lets face the fact that most of you dont care how strong you are, you just want to look good, right!? Nothing wrong with that! But eating garbage isn't going to get you there no matter how much you workout. Most of us work for a living, so even 30 minutes of working out can be hard to accommodate. But eating right just takes will power.
If you aren't counting calories (yes, you will have to weigh some foods to be accurate) then you are going to either not get the results you desire, or worse you will fail completely.
Resolve to eat clean. Do this for 30 days and then you will be so pumped at the results that you will want to do another 30 days, and so on and so forth. If you eat right, your energy levels will start to soar day by day, week by week and you will naturally feel like being more active.
Also, you can't cheat this. Your body will account for every single thing you eat, so you must do the same. You also can't starve your way out of this, unless you want to be unhealthy in the process and be at risk of gaining it all back plus more. Don't go beyond a 1000 calorie deficit, which means for adult males you shouldn't set your daily caloric intake below 1500.
I've seen many more people meet and maintain their weight loss goals through just proper diet, than those who tried to diet and hit the gym at the same time. Those are two HUGE changes in person's life, too big for most to handle. So do the obvious "better" one and eat clean to start. Being active will most likely become something you desire as your body repairs itself, rather than something you have to talk yourself into.
