Soil and Nutrients???

I was wondering what is the best soil to use for my grow? Also what is the best nutrients to use? I am using CFL lighting and I am going to either us LST or the ScrOG technique since it is in a grow box. Any tips and ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

We just bought some Happy Frog from FF and are liking it alot. As far as best soil idk and I don't think anyone does. If a company could make this "Best Soil" They wouldn't make anymore lol. I like to ask the guys at the local hydro stores if they appear knowledgeable. I would just tell them what you are planning to setup.

I have seen and heard good things though about mose FF products and Sunshine #4 is pretty popular.

I've tried a boatload of stuff.I would use fox farms ocean forest soil, pure blend pro grow for veg,and fox farm tiger bloom for flowering. If you can get real blackstrap molasses it great to trow a tablespoon in per gallon every third feeding or so

Hi. Many questions on this site can be seen about nutrients and soil. From my experience, there should be not a big drama about it. Simple and positevely checked personaly is that you buy: Any light weight soil for flowers. Then you buy Hydrotone balls to mix with soil. 50%-50%. Drill as many holes at the bottom of pots too, it is very important not to rely on 4 factory made holes on them. Anyway, about nutrients. You have dozen of Plant Food Makers... so it is up to you which to choose. For example, good firm is Advanced NUtrients. I buy Blood Bloom and Big BUd from them. It really works. Beside that I add Liquid Oxygen made for hydropincs into nutrient tank (Oxyplus). Also you have to have any brand NPK nutrient from the shop. One for Veg phase with HIGHER N. And one for Flo phase with LOWER N. Blood Bloom is addition for pre week flowering phase only. Big bud is for flowering week 2 and above. So it is a combination always. And every second watering is flushing, clear water. Never overfeed, thinking they will grow better.... Water every 6-7 days, depending on pot size and climate temp in da room.

I used Schultz Expert potting soil from wal-mart for years and it produced excellent product. I then switched to Fox Farm Ocean Forest Soil which is probably one of the best soils out there in my opinion and is probably what you should go with. I recently switched form FF OF to a brand called Roots Organics Natural & Organic Potting Soil by Aurora Innovations and the only reason I switched was I wanted to try out a soil that didnt have any fertilizers in it. So far its been working out well. The guy at the hydro store said that the FoxFarm OF was his #1 seller and the Roots Organics Soil was his #2. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=5&ved=0CDAQFjAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.horticulturesource.com%2Fproduct_info.php%2Fproducts_id%2F2545&rct=j&q=roots%20soil&ei=9V7ATOXsAoWClAf-26WaCg&usg=AFQjCNHDVTUN9LckqjyPm67u2slp7qrDWQ&cad=rja

whats up dude. ive tried a few different soils and in my opinion i think its more affordable to mix your own and you can also ensure that your media is great quality. if you dont want to mix your own i would look for a few key things when choosing. make sure the soil you choose is well balanced

a balance of ingredients like guano's, chicken manure, worm castings, blood & bone meal, feather meal, kelp meal, rock dust, etc. would be a place to start. a good balance of ingredients will ensure plant health thus avoiding problems. also a soil thats ph adjusted is a must. lime, oyster shells are common in good soils. i would also look for a soil that has mycorrhizae as it is very beneficial to the plant. if your interested in your own mix their are plenty of options you can explore and i use a mix you can try that is very good. its in the indoor growing section https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/377845-hillbillybobs-soil-mix.html good luck man.

i agree with big v about not spending $25 on a bag of soil but im not a big fan of MG myself. thats why i came up with my own soil mix, to cut cost but not quality. i can make a 1 cubic foot bag of my soil mix for about $ 6- $ 11 a bag with the majority of the costs coming from the worm castings in the mix. if you used mushroom or regular compost in its place it would be on the cheaper end of this range and thats a soil with ingredients like feather meal, poultry manure, cocoa meal, bone meal, alfalfa meal, greensand, azomite, mycorrhizae fungi, dolomite lime, beneficial bacteria, and enhanced with microbes from the fertilizer mix. for the price its hard to beat unless you live somewhere you can get roots organics soil for cheap but thats not many places. and aside from that your not gonna get a balanced mix of ingredients like that in MG. if you get a chance check out the thread. peace
