SOIL PH slow to lower

My Ph testw says my soil was at 7.0. I lowered the water to 4.2, 3 days ago. My soil now says 6.5, "perfect I know". To me, admittedly not experienced with soil Ph only fish tank Ph feels that it's not low enough for the amount of watering I've done.

Is my meter wrong or am I just asking for to quick a change? Tap water started at over 8.2. I'm using Miracle grow potting soil and Recipe For Success starter kit, which lowers water Ph on it's own to low 5's.

Same tester checks for fertilizer levels shows it right at the low end of good. Home Depot $18.00 gage.

You want your soil to be stable at 7.0---------------Your water for soil should be ph'd to 6.3(ph your water before you feed plain or nutrient mixed ).
