Soil poll - what do you use and why

I have used many different kinds of soil over various grows, everything from the 4$ a bag stuff from Home Depot to 22$ a bag Light warrior ( a small bag I might add ).

I am getting everything ready for this year's outdoor grow and I am looking at the cost of soil which has gone up a little. Right now, if I use Light warrior and ocean forest I am looking at about 100$ for soil.

I have had good results with the cheap stuff though. I am considering maybe using the cheap stuff or mixing the cheap stuff with the FF soils.


Any thoughts regarding the value of expensive soil vs. cheap soil?

as long as you mix it with corse grit sand you can use any soil/compost and get good results. or perlite if weights a issue.

I use pro mix hp with a 50% mix of perlite for drainage, then I put earth worm
castings in. ope that helps

ProMix BX with 30% additional perlite and vermiculite added.
I also add a generous amount of dolomite lime.

why vermiculite and the lime? just wondering

The vermiculite helps to lighten and fluff-up the blend and works well with perlite.
Dolomite lime is an excellent PH buffer and provides many trace elements as well.

I used to use just perlite and soil but after trying it this last grow, I really like putting some Light Warrior in there also. As far as sand or perlite, aside from the weight factor, are there any other advantages to using one over the other?

I am also considering going organic..

sand is ORGANIC and perlite is not. you'l grow better weed with sand than perlite. but for conveince perlites O.K.
