Should my baskets with medium and plant in it actually
sit a couple inches in the water res or just b over it and
drain into the res?
l mean actually in water mixture in res or is it common

There should be enough water to fill the lines and have just enough water in the bottom the the pot to cover the bottom of the pot. I had water that was about 2" deep and it started to rot the roots. I put a 1" spacer under the pots so they drain better and leaves a min of water. MB

I'm running a differant system than you are but unless the water is moveing it will start to rot. That's the way it's worked for me. MB

That depends on what kind of system you are in...in some having the roots submerged will drown them...it's often best to have merlot out of the water and roots hanging into the water.
