Starting seeds in soil.

First time trying in fox farms ocean forrest(or any soil), and want to have a plan before germinating seeds. I'll germinate and use paper towel method untill seed sprouts than plant 1/2" in soil. My question is watering. Do i water before i put seed in soil, and read that it's best to wait till first inch of soil is dry to water again. Is this the same with seedling? Also do i need to ph the water? I will be using ocean forrest and just transplanting to new soil every 3-4 weeks in a bigger pot.

Different schools of thought here...First ALWAYS make sure the ph of your water is balanced. 2nd FFOF is IMHO a bit hot for seedlings. I use the FFHF myself. Anyway, I choose to not completely wet down my soil prior to planting. I usually just use about a shot glass of water and then plant about 1/4 to 1/2" deep. I continue giving about the same amount of water for a few days. I believe letting the soil dry a bit helps roots grow as they seek moisture.

Good Luck and Great Growz

I think you would be alright, try not to plant it in a huge container yet, A solo cup with drainage holes in the bottom would work great for the first 2-3weeks and like bkkbbuds said its up to you if you wet your soil before you plant or after, I tend to get the soil a little wet, then plant then finish watering

My only worry is watering while they're little. I don't want to end up overwatering as i know its a good way to get bugs. I have smart pots(root trapper ll) so it should be easy for water not to stay soaking in the pots.

BTW you say you are going to transplant every 3-4 weeks...why? Each time you transplant your plants they get growth shock, slows them down and can cause problems the least of which is not hermie (she-males). Personally I go from my starting container into 5 gallon grow bags and that is where the stay until harvest. But to each their own.

Water the night before you plant a germinated seedling and water it sparingly afterward. If you plant directly into a larger container, you're going to have to play a game of humidity vs. deep root growth. I spray the top soil every day for the seedling stage... Any early watering/spraying I do is around the sprout, never directly on it.

I plant directly into 5 gallon smart pots and water when the sides go from wet to dry/damp. Not sure how else to describe my watering cycles. Add some dolomite lime and perlite to that FFOF, I add some beneficials to a semi-organic grow and don't even bother to pH.

Well, i have fox farms trio hydro as i tried dwc and perlie hempy briefly so i wanted to use the soils nutes to learn before buying nutes to add after as the ocean forrest only feeds 3-4 weeks. Was just gonna go cup to 1 gal. to 2 or 3 gal. adding more new soil each time.
