This is a freezer that I decided to use for growing my medicinal herb. Im a first time grower so I have no idea what I am getting into, other than I enjoy me some weed. Since the Dr said it was cool and the lady said it was cool, this is my green light to start a fun project while i'm unemployed.
I found a freezer and removed the compressor. The hardware removed was taken from underneath the step inside the body of the freezer. (See Image)
The LED lights were the ONLY THING I could put inside it because of the heat. I tried a bunch of 24" flouroz and the box just got way too hot. I mean 116 degrees. Yeah, too high for my plants.
I am really into LEDs so I bought 4 of the GlowPanel45 units. So far, so good. These guys are pumping out the light and the power consumption is only totaling 133 watts. The whole setup consists of a small desk fan, a 3" inline 120v fan, timer, 4x GlowPanel 45 and the Cyron Accent light kits for working the Scrog.
The GP45 lights weren't cheap $125 ea but since they are mounted in a contained freezer, it made for an ideal environment for temperature stabilization. I am pleased so for with the results.
The temperature now varies between 77 and 85 degrees. It has a passive air intake in the back floor area while air is sucked through a carbon filter (which is really only a large electrical 90d elbow access box that I fitted the fan into) and blown out of the box. I am proud of this and so far no smell even with no carbon in the filter. The carbon was taken out when I was having temp problems while tuning fans and gauging air flow, another "to do" to do.
I put a security camera in the freezer too so I can keep an eye on things, plus an HAI thermostat and a temp and humid gauge.
On another note, I noticed white flies. These guys are tricky to get rid of. I am now trying SM-90 with somewhat decent results. But I also have a few areas on my plants that I cannot determine if its white fly related or nutrient/ water deficiency. What do you think?
I figure it will take a few attempts to get everything all dialed in.
