Hey Doc! Good luck on round 1! What are you feeding them?

My advise.. Next time use Hydroton, hygromite or pea gravel! The Lava rocks are too porous and sharp. They can damage/cut roots when moved around and they hold lots of buildup.. Make sure you are pumping LOTS of air in that water.. They can drown easy without it.. I’d add another CFl or two if you can squeeze them in…

Happy Growing!

Yea i know but theres no hydro shops in my area and cant have anything shipped to my house so i went with what i could i have a 5 gallon fish air pump so they do have plenty of air they are doing good so far and roots were already part way developed and they seem to be pocking out of the bottom more and more and im using a liquid base nute soution i bought at walmart seems to be doing fine so far but the nute burn on some of the lower leafs are from when they were in soil my brother in law over waterd them and i did add another 12w cfl that is red to add a little more of a red spectrum to it will post pics in a couple of days so well see how it goes thanks for the input

I am so sub'd I am considering going dwc for my purchased grapefruit seed. I am doing a hydro outdoor fruit and vegetable garden now to test my chops... it is tougher than dirt as long as you don't f'up your starter grow cups like I did. I can't wait to learn from you experience too. peace... time for medication. Just posted some pics. Day 10.

Dude, you have the lights too far away... get them closer within 4 to 6 inches... mine are near three inches... it will help prevent that stretching and weakening of the stem. Do it sooner than later bro.

i only moved the lights up for the pics just checked the girls "hopefuly" and 2 were witing did some rearanging and hoping that they will get a little more air to them let you know and ok ill go check the pics out and yea again the streching problem was the brother in law while i was out of town he was taking care of them thought the light was the burn not the nutes so he lifted it all the way up in my other temporary box got back and i was like shit streach like a mofoo but i have them about 2 inches away now so its all a learning experence if the 2 dont make it i have another smaller container to use that i believe will work better might even switch it tomorrow idk but give me about 30 min and ill have pics up

Are they getting any nutrients? Or maybe too much nutrients?

Check the Ph too... your plants are looking pretty sad.

for sure haha ill draw up a plan on paint and pst it but you have 2 grow room one for mother of course

then have a room set up for 9 plants as small as you would like but large enough to fit all 9 5 gallon buckets

you take one clone a week and make your lights angled as the plants will grow larger as you move them threw out

the setup but you let the cutting grow for one week in a veg state then throw her in the flowering room and do

so every week so by the time its hit its 9th pot it will be a fully matured but somewhat small beautiful marijuana plant

so the mother can beging to start cloning while she is small when se gets to big throw her in another room to flower her ofcourse after

taking a clone for a new mother so havest is every week after the first 9 weeks of set up or if you have plants now which most of us

do lol take cuttings from then i figure depending on the plant choice thats between 1 to 4 oz a week

im going to get on that digram now and ill post it and some pics of the girls tonight they arnt so sad any more but a tad bit yellow still

but i lowered the nutes as i said so i hope soon they will bounce right back

alright guys and gals if any view my thread a little update from all the madness my plants still kept a yellow tinge to them so i decided to throw them back in a soil set up just werent doing as good as i hoped they would but have already began to bounce back to there good all selfs will post pics tomorrow to sow you guys where i am and had a question i have vary stunted growth could this be because of the shock of switching back and forth between growing types or what else should i let the soil fully dry out between waterings? let me know where i can improve i need the advice

Hey drpeppersolo,
Have you looked into trying COCO CHIPS as a medium? They are super cheap and pretty amazing for DWC. They are also called coco croutons. A dried 1kg brick goes for about $2. If you have a local hydro store you can save on the shipping. I'd check some place like hydrofarm.com or n-g-w.com and look for a local retailer near you. Pay cash and never give up on Hydroponics. Or if you go to soil, really consider soiless first. Soil is sooo finicky with the overwatering and whatnot. It's easier to get something like a soiless medium and use an aerated pot for maximum drainage. I just read about a guy who goes to home depot and uses the coconut fiber pots, along with Roots Organics Soiless Medium. But the general rule of thumb you might have been looking for is to never allow more than 2inches from the top to dry out before watering again.

I suggest trying the
Coconut basket pots from Wal-mart/Homedepot.
Cocotek Mixed Brick
Combo.

Any over watering pretty much just drains out.

What nutrients are you using?

5gallon is a huge reservoir. That should be for plants that have well established root balls. Start smaller on the dwc reservoir. I found that you can buy a 2quart pitcher and pop a medicine bottle into the mouth of the lid. punch holes into the medicine bottle and viola a net pot. A sterile sponge or a sterile sponge broken into tiny pieces works as a fine medium. I'm not too sure about the lava rock thing. That might be pretty good for thick stemed cuttings that could use a strong anchor as such.
