Stunted Growth, lost vigor?

Can a Plant that went through some difficulties early in its life recover 100%, or have the genetics been compromised by the damage already and it won't make as good flowers as it possibly could have?

I've had a few plants that most people would have thrown away. They even had three leaves for a few months. Once they got older and through the struggle of my shitty care, they turned out to be decent.

I'm on my first grow and almost toasted it with nutrient. 3rd week of flower and visible trich filling in good
