Sup all, long time no speak...

I'm hoping for a nice summer this year and started my plants off a tad late due to the cold conditions. I've got GHS feminized Hollands Hope and White Widow, i'm hoping the HH won't succum to any mould later in the year due to its succes in holland (similar latitude to me) and mould resistant genetics.

Turned out that i had left my Schwede seeds (unknown strain my friend named, grows to around 10 foot, with truly huuge dank sativa/indica cross colas), in a pocket and yup, sure enough they went through the washing machine. Germ'd them anyway and they sprouted yesterday which i wasn't expecting, so yah hopefully that has toughened them up heh.

  • I've got them under 80 watts of mixed spectrum clfs, 24/0. And i germ'd them on the 30th of april, i take them outside every couple of days to avoid any transplant shock int he future.
  • Soil that consists of my own mix; local shop bought organic compost, homemade 2 yr old compost and John Innes potting soil.
  • Started feeding with a tea made of organic rooting hormone, molasses, seaweed extract and 6.2 / 5.2 / 5.2 organic nute. I alternate this daily with water.
  • Got some CO2 on the go, in true ghetto style. For anyone who cares it's made with; brewers yeast, cane sugar, yeast nutrient (increases fermentation) and lemon juice.
  • Temps don't really go over 77f.

Anything i've missed, just shout.

Here's the pics; they are approx 13 days from breaking the soil.

temporary cab, it's 99% lightproof.

WW, smallest of the lot:

The topped HH, stunted it's growth a bit but its all good now.

The strongest HH

nice internode growth for 13 days old under cfls right?

anyways, they'll be going outside permanently when the weather is much more reliable... and when they have a bit more height on them. cheers for reading.

These spots showed up the other day, this leaf was pretty close to the light and it might have been wet, so it may just be light magnified thru water droplets, but i'm not sure.... anyone know?

Those are gonna be lil' beasts when you put them under the sun I'm sure!

I wish I had a place to grow outdoors, I'm envious of every outdoor grower lol

yea, wasn't my first choice originally but last year i had a friend who lives nearby and did amazingly well with 12 plants, they would have made 5oz each easily but the mould got to some of the main colas while he was drying them. So yea.. gives me something to aim for considering that was his first grow.

aanyway.. i bought some new nutes and stuff for future re-pottings:

best stuff i could get short of buying them online or travelling for a couple hours:

i've only heard good things about mychorrhizzal fungi, and for the replant outside it seems perfect to make sure the roots establish themselves well, if anyone else has had any experience with it let me know.

some chains to make adjusting the light height a bit easier. And some cheap activated carbon pads to use in the near future, i'm gonna swap my outtake from passive to a small fan running through afew of the pads. The smell is already slightly noticeable outside the cab, the small pads should be able to cope with minimal vegging smell.

the WW (left) has suddenly overtaken the other 2 , has less nodes, but huge leaves in comparison. i'm still waiting for the topped hh to show its results fully.
safe to say u can see the the indica dom side in all of these.

my cfls were hanging downward which is the least light emitting position when positioned above the plants, so i made a new reflector with mount for them in the horizontal position, i can now raise the lights much more.... and get to my plants without burning my fingertips.:blsmoke:

for those who are interested, i made it out of some 0.5mm sheet steel, and a set of sprung tool holders, both just bent by hand. ii then bound it all together tight with XL zip ties. works like a charm.:joint::mrgreen:
all together, with hooks, chains etc.. it came to only £9.50, and it has the potential to accomodate up to 7 cfls or some HID.

As for my passive outtake, it's been replaced with a 5 inch, 5 watt inline fan, this allows the new reflectors extra heat output to be negated and then some.

Question...

Would i theoretically be able to flip to 12/12 at the end of 7 weeks veg, force flower a plant indoors and then take it outdoors but into 14 /10 daylight, and continue to flower it. As daylight does not drop to 12/12 for afew months here. Would i risk shocking the plant or cause it to hermi?

The reason i want to do this is because the 9 week flowering required would run into the colder months if i let nature take its course, and i dont want to deal with bad weather, cold and mould if i can help it, so is there anything i can do?.

MJ needs 12 hours of darkness to flower. It may show symptoms of stress if you move it outdoors after initiating the flowering cycle. In 14/10 the plants will still be in veg 'mode'.

I don't have too much experience with outdoors, so this may be a question for the outdoor grow community.

Hope this helps.

Very nice job with the light setup. I like that a lot. It looks store bought, for the most part
As far as the thing with flowering...I would definitely not put them on 12/12 and then put them in to 14/10. That would be very bad, and yes, you might hermi them.
You do have a couple of options, however. You seem to be pretty crafty, so you can probably rig something up to put over the plant to shorten the photo period. Just keep in mind it needs to have ventilation as well as keep out all light...a little tricky, but it can be done.
A second option would be to just grow it in a 10 gal pot and move it inside every day after it has had it's 12 hours of light.
Either way you go you're going to have to be like clock work. It is important to get the timing right every day.

Those are pretty nice looking plants. Hope everything works out for you, man. Ill be watching. Keep up the good work.

i dont think that bringing them in and out simulating 12/12 is guna be possible, i'm gonna be away for about 5 weeks total starting around july ( the longest i will go without seeing the plants will be a week or so, and i've got a drip feed system sorted for when i do )

luckily we've been predicted the hottest longest summer on record.. the daylight won't hit 12/12 until mid/late sep, so as long as i watch out for the first frosts and adverse conditions they'll hav about 7 weeks for flowering, which is less than ideal but an early indica sounds nice.

Would it be a good idea to veg inside for as long as possible to keep sizes down, therefore reducing the ultimate amount of budsites on the plants, therefore reducing flowering time, giving me less bud but of a nicer finished quality.....?

I guess next go ill look into some nice ruderalis hybrids and get them auto flowering mid - year.

Sounds like autos might be the best idea if your grow season is so short. I have seen some go from seed to harvest in 90 days.
I actually want to try that out. I could start some now and have them ready to smoke before the ones I have had growing for a month are even harvested!
That actually sounds like a GREAT idea now that I mention it...

seen a noticable increase in grow speed since i put the new lights in, i will probably add the 3 red spec bulbs back in when i can be asked, giving me 140 watts in a 1x1x2 space (y)

did some pruning, topped the hollands hope again, giving the lower nodes a chance to catch up and it seeems to be working.
