So I went out to the hydro store today and picked up a copy of Urban Garden magazine. In it there is an article regarding sulfur plasma lighting. The light is made by a german/british company called. Plasma International. The lamp and megnetron unit is an electroeless lamp that includes an evacuated quartz bulb partially backfilled with argon and a bit of sulfur, plus a source of microwave power and magnetron. The lamps are 400-1400 watts. They claim to put out virtually no IR or UV light. The greatest thing is that these lights are supposed to be a true full spectrum bulb. They have been doing testing in the netherlands t wageningen university. Apparently cucumbers grown under these light produce 60% better results than those grow under a hps light. It also performed 125 percent better than cfls. This is based on final weight and speed of growth. These lights are produce i the order of 50 percent less heat than an equivilent hps.
Just thought Id share and see what everyone thinks. By the way they are only available for research purposes now and if you wanted it expect to pay near 3500 dollars. They are expecting 1-2 years before it hits the market
