Super Stealth Speaker Box Bulid

ok so ive been reading and talking to avrum and following his basic design for his speaker box, im pretty sure mines a lot smaller so this will bring more problems. looking at the dimensions ill only be able to keep one small plant. disappointing but whatever. the box is roughly 11"L by 11"W by 16"H so 1,936 cubic inches i think. itll be a CFL grow of course i only run about four lights 2 from the side 2 from above. itll be soil, i dont want water and electricity together in a wooden box with very little room. in the photos i plan on using that upper left circle where a speaker used to be as an intake or outtake not sure yet. maybe with the help of follow stoners i can piece this together bit by bit

My initial idea would be to use the large bottom hole (front) as an intake fan and the back as an out take fan. My reason behind this would be a flow of cool air from the bottom and the heat rises which aids in getting rid of it from a higher fan. You could then use the two holes on the front at the top for lights. You definately want to cover the interior with (preferably) maylar, being the most reflective, failing that give it a white coat or use other reflective materials.

looks legit only problem i can think of is that when you're plant grows its stays in there until you chop it because it probably won't fit through the hole lol

Yea i was thinking something along the lines but the hole in the back is dead center. That's why I thought maybe the back and then upper left with a fan inside to help circulate air. The fronts going to be covered of course. I'm going to start painting flat white but might use Mylar later on. Should turn into an interesting box, I'm going to cover the front mesh cover with cardboard when I get home.

Haha yes once the ladies in there's she's not comming out until harvest time

I've had a change of plans, now this will be something I bet none of you have seen before, it's going to be a working speaker box with 2x 8" subs 2x 5" mids and 2x 3" tweeters. And inside this box....... Several fine ladies growing under cfls (;

I'm going to bulid a box with the dimensions 21"L 22"W 23"H will give me much more room plus the box will actually work!!! Who can say there's marijuana hidden in there now?!? If it wasn't 9:30 I'd probably be off running to home depot right now! I'll have the supplies for the box tomorrow. I'll be sure to update, I plan on ordering a pair of computer fans that have a control box. It was like 20$ for one so question for now how many fans do you think I'll need? I plan on running 8cfls

I had the same idea today. Was Actually in home depot and bought the wrong light. Going to home depot tomorrow to get the correct light for my plant. The working speaker box with marijuana idea is ingenuous. I wish I knew more about plants to tell you whether or not it hurts the plant.

about to order my fans online from bestbuy.. dont have one close by and to lazy to go on a drive, i have a giftcard so hell it works. anyway i plan on getting three of these fans there 120mm, then ill get this control module.

anyone see any problems with these?

Antec - TrueQuiet 120mm Fan

3 - Channel Control Bay

also to help make this box even more stealthy im going to put cowled wall outlet, the ones you see on ducts outside your home. these will go inside and should get rid of some light leaks. ill paint them black.

update. got some wood :eyesmoke:

started laying everything out, there will be a frame inside for support. my problem right now is figure out a way to access the box at any given time. any suggestions? a hing wont really work atleast the ones i have laying at home wont. there might be one out there that will work.

your box is looking really nice bro.
I have an idea of how to open your box, but it's kind of hard for me to express. Basicly you choose one of the walls, and at the top of it make a clip that will clip to a nail. At the bottom of this removable wall the bottom would fit into its place, but to remove it you would have to unclip the clip, and lift it up. Here's a rough (im on laptop) diagram:
I really hope this explains it if not ask me any questions you have.

That sounds great should work perfectly, how would I go about though cutting that slot the wood is 1/2 thickness. I could use a jig saw but I'd assumed this would make a huge mess and give terrible results. Would drilling a set of holes then chiseling them out work?

Well my idea would be to use a jig saw, but if that is problematic for you finding another way to get the same finish is fine. What about making that lower thinner piece seperately, then gluing it to the bottom of your removable wall? Oviously using hot glue or someting similar and secure.

that would work, also ive decided to pretty much make a slot on the top and bottom this way itll just easily slide out to the left or right no hinge or anything to mess with. but ok so i could make the smaller piece that goes in the slot but theres defiantly going to be trouble as far as i can think making the slot its self.

this method would be quiet difficult looking at the way these boards are cut, id have to cut another 2 pieces and glue them to the top and bottom to make the insert part, while the roof board and base board would have to have a slot cut into them. this could be done but im not sure how easy it would be. i was thinking maybe having the entire back panel act as a door. im not sure yet, id have to find some hinges that would work. either way i will find a way to get this to work. just takes some troubleshooting and rethinking.

EDIT: i think i might have found a good solution to my problem, there called concealed hinges. seeing as my box will have a frame im pretty sure id be able to attach the hinge to the frame but im not really sure yet. funny how such a simple concept is so damn elaborate right now

Update!

well did some shopping this morning and got to work on the technical part of the grow box. to make things as stealthy as possible im going to put 2 power strips inside the box with one being connected to the other. this way there will be one cord coming out of the box. a lot less sketchy than a whole mess of cables going in and out. there will be a timer inside for the lights and of course the cfls will be attached to a power strip that will go on the roof. 4 bulbs will be on top then two more small cables come down to give me another 2 bulbs close to the plants. that way my plants will have good lighting all through life. :leaf: i got 3 pc fans two of which are 80mm the other is 120mm for just circulation in the box. i need to work out a way to light proof the fans. my original method wont work as i cant find those cowled vents anywhere :-? i do have pvc pipe elbows that will fit, but im not sure how to go about attaching them to the fan. also should i just cut a hole the size of the fan diameter and not the full 3" by 3" square? this way theres only a hole and you cant see the fan? stopped at the local hydrostore and got some fox farm as well!

heres some pics as you can see everything works, pc fans are running in parallel, the lights all work connected to the timer! good day time to kick back a blow a dubbie :blsmoke:

Wow, really nice setup man, +rep it looks great.
Would you be so kind as to link me / explain how you were able to hook those fans up to a wall plug, because it would be really useful for my future PC grow case, cheers.
Gonna sub to this one!:bigjoint:

i used prior knowledge, pretty much most pc fans have either a 3 pin connector or 4 pin, what this means is there a positive, negative, one for recognizing overheating then in a four pin theres one for another use. anyway you only really care about the red and black wires which are your + and - . Any phone charger or other 12VDC charger works perfect. all you do is cut the end off the 12VDC charger and spread the wires apart. then strip both about a half inch to quarter inch. take the red and black aka + and - wires from the fan strip them the same way and connect the + to the + and the - to the - wish i had takin pic of me doing this would have made a nice guide. it might take two trys to get the + to + and - to - hook up right, sometimes the 12VDC charger wont say which is negative or positive but just try them on way then if the fan doesnt run try the other and itll turn right on.

sk2155.jpg see the red + and black -?

Adaptor_Fixed12V.JPG just cut the end off and youll have two wires.

Thanks for the guide man, it was easy to understand and a great help. I'm getting these fans for my case (front & rear 120mm + a 250mm side) in the hope that they will be quieter than the case stock fans, as I'm aiming for a super stealth box to get a lot of use out of, ill just stick these into a multiplug, what do you think? :)
