Among the poll’s key findings:

• Sixty-six percent (66%) of all voters say abortions should be legal after 20 weeks if a woman’s doctor determines that the woman would suffer serious, long-lasting health problems if she carried the pregnancy to term.
• Sixty-one percent (61%) of all voters say abortions should be legal after 20 weeks if a woman's doctor determines that the fetus is not yet viable and the woman and her family determine that her health and personal circumstances are such that she should not continue her pregnancy.
• Sixty-one percent (61%) of all voters say abortions should be legal after 20 weeks if a pregnancy resulted from rape or incest.

71% of registered voters say congress and state governments shouldn't even be spending time on this issue.

well, there are a ton of polls that show that a majority of americans do support a 20 week abortion ban.

the problem with those polls is that they do not ask americans about reality.

the reality is that in many, many cases, women are faced with tough decisions. they may find out after 20 weeks that the fetus is not viable, they may find out that the fetus has abnormalities which will keep it from living normally (or even simply not in constant pain), the mother might suffer long term health problems, and so on and so forth.

when americans are asked about 20+ week abortions with the reality of what women face laid out in front of them, they say 20+ week abortions should be fully legal.

the alternative would be unsafe and deadly back alley abortions, which sloppy seconds would undoubtedly love to see more of.

because that's american freedom.

all of the polling statements have special circumstances attached to them.

so the only instance in which americans don't oppose a 20 week abortion ban is the one in which reality must be ignored or excluded.

about one third of them will have an abortion at some point in their lives, so 52 million abortions or so.

2% of those pregnancies may come with unplanned complications according to your expert math, which i will not even question even though you did not cite your source (undoubtedly because you went to some wingnut fringe lunatic website, kinda like you did when you were denying the reality of scientific polling in 2012 or calling AGW a hoax (along with KKK leader david duke) this whole time).

2% of 52 million abortions works out to be slightly over a million abortions.
