t5 strips Vs 4 x 20w cfl for side lighting

Been having a conversation with a very helpful member of this forum,

But the conversation threw up a question. t5 strips or cfl for side lighting,

I know that 4 x 20watt cfl is more wattage than 1 x 20[ish] watt t5, simple maths. But the T5 does cover a larger area, 60cm.

Any thoughts? also t5 vs t4... difference?
