Taking Tester Buds?

so one of my lowryder#2's is nearing completion and i was thinking about maybe plucking a little off her to test, ive been reading up alot as its my first grow and want to see the difference in early/late/harvest but am wary of just yanking off her beautiful buds, is it ok to do this and if so where from and how?

I think all you'll find is that your plucked bud tastes like shit and has a weird buzz, no comparison to what you'll have after the plant has been dried and properly cured. It's hardly a fair test.

I think much of what you'll read on the internet about "tweaking" your high based on harvest time is misleading. Simply harvest the buds when they are ripe, which means a majority of the trichs are cloudy with some amber, pistils are receding and calyxes are swollen up looking like there are BB's in them (disclaimer: not all plants look the same characteristics when ripe).

If you want to dial in a particular buzz, do so with your choice of genetics.

^^^^^added,

If your plant is near completion , you can pluck some smaller buds from lower on the plant , bear in mind that you prob have not flushed yet so may taste a bit earthy , but you will get a general idea of taste and buzz,
Remember drying and curing will also affect the buds greatly,
good luck Umbre,
lets see some pics ;)

thanks for clearing that up mate i was reluctant to take any thing till shes ready, after been so gentle the last couple of months it just seems well....rude.
i was thinking id harvest when i start seeing first amber trichromes is that roughly a good time to take her down, its just theres so much contradictory info out there

Cutting down your plant at different stages can affect the type of buzz you get ie , couch lock , head rush, body lift, i can go no furthur as i am not an expert on this i let em go as long as possible , everyones taste is different , plenty of info on here about it though....
Pictures would really help...

i have noticed a considerable diffrence in buds chopped at 50-60-70-77 days i would let it go as long as possible w/o hermie nanners
the 77 day herb puts me to bed =) makes my eyes heavy and i feel stoned, the 50 day herb, i like to fuck around in the garden, all depends on perference, adn i definitely agree with WBD its a wierd ass buzz, like you cant really get stoned from it no matter HOW MUCH YOU SMOKE.

heres some pics as requested dont be too harsh it is my first grow but any advice/criticisms/comments are greatly recieved;-)

I take samples from my plants once they start getting swollen calyxes and browned hairs a bit, usually 2-3 weeks before harvest...quickdry in the oven for about an hour and a half...light it up...

I dunno wtf you guys talking about that its not a good way to test whats going on...I harvest when my latest sample gives me a nice combination of head/body high that lasts about 2 hours...once its cured the head reduces by about 50%, so its about 25% head, 75% body when cured fully and lasts about 4-5 hours.

At first its very heady and as you continue to take samples it gets away from the heady only with a slight headache afterward feeling to more of the head/body high that I am looking for in my plants :)

thanks cause if i could control it id like to keep it as head high as possible and being a dwarf i didnt want to affect the yield too much

Then you WILL be harvesting it early if you are looking for headies...heady comes from immature clear trichs :)

That' gross, but to each his own. :)

Exactly, the final product is nothing like that sample. That's how it's not a good test.

Yeah, I try not to get headaches from smoking pot. Kind of goes against why I'm smoking it. Smoking quick-dry is a surefire way to feel like shit after a rather awkward, unsatisfying buzz IMHO. Again, to each his own. :)

my quickdried bud doesn't taste like shit, and only gives a VERY mild headache from the really early bud...its a little bit harsh, but i've purchased bud in the past that was more harsh...

And how is this not an accurate way to test bud? I said once the high lasts about 2 hours and is a 50/50 head/body high its time for ME to harvest...because the resulting bud after cure is exactly where I want it with about a 25%/75% head to body ratio...

Do you people cook real food without tasting it while cooking it?

I don't know how you can say your quickdried bud tastes good, then you criticize because you think I should be sampling bud along the way? I can't help but question your taste in cannabis.

I guess I'm just too picky. :)

I never said it tastes GOOD...its not horrible...and I've tried several methods of quickdrying and the method I use in the oven produces the best so far to me...

To each their own on how they grow cannabis, but telling someone that sampling doesn't tell you anything is pure crap. It does tell you alot about the trich formation thus far IF you know how it's suppose to feel as its growing ;)
