Great point.. a lot of gardeners like to add in sugars (not me) I'm not sure why.... too much we risk root rot.
My opinion is that BSM is not needed ... at least for growing micro-organisms.
Water + EWC = excellent compost tea (add in Kelp Meal - FTW)
I add in the ground up (by me) malted grains for the goodies they bring to the table not really for the tea. I add the Kelp Meal for same reason. 1x week weather the plants need it or not.
molasses can be found in many things as well, not just sticky glue, I prefer organic evaporated cane juice any day for my plants, just personally.
I add a diy ground flour mix to my soils topsoils when not in use, and they grow mycelium, beneficial fungus, etc and the flowering teas get a handful of this added to its netting.
food stock could also be baby plants, leaves, flowers, seaweed, shilajit, a rotting peach, depends on your style and approach really. Almost everything can be beneficial if used in moderation. I recommend playing around especially with some bagseed or tomatoes etc
