Ted Cruz visit to Bronx high school canceled after students threaten a walkout

Why would anyone champion what these kids did as a good thing?

First of all, since her school is a place for immigrants they denied their schools principals by rejecting Cruz, after all his father is an immigrant.

But more importantly, this is a disturbing trend with the left. When you encounter ideas that are contrary to yours, you dont plug your fingers in your ears and scream. You listen to them and counter them with better ideas. If your idea is better than someone's and you express it adequately the other person will be all but compelled to adopt your position.

I dont expect the students in opposition to Cruz to say anything to him that could have changed his mind, but they couldn't have all been opposed to Cruz. Not only did they deny their classmates who wanted to hear Cruz the opportunity to do so, they denied themselves the opportunity to challenge their own views by absorbing the message of views opposed to their own.

Since I've came here I have adopted new opinions on issues through interactions with people here whom I disagree with. My own views have been modified through engaging in disagreement with ideas I don't agree with.

This is how we grow. And these kids don't know better. But the administration should be ashamed of caving in on this and denying this opportunity to the students.

Except with evolution and gay marriage, then you bribe politicians and lobby the government until they accept your ideals, and you never stop until they do!

That is so much BS them kids are from an immigrant neighborhood you think they want to hear how his policies will deport them or their parents.

He chose the wrong place to pay a visit, his garbage would've been accepted in Bronxville, Riverdale, Whitestone not the south Bronx. His comments about New York values made him into a pariah.

Fuck Cruz!!!!

Would this also apply if a klan official or a skinhead wanted to speak at the school?

American politics has painted itself into a nasty corner;

And yes, I'm going to plaster this evidence of political hysteria everywhere I can, because voters in this country really don't have a lot of points of reference.

No. But only because it's at a school. The skinhead speaking about his racial superiority is adding nothing to the educational experience. The only way it could be considered in a school is in a method that could directly challenge it, such as a formal debate. Then it could be made a teaching moment.

But that you even make that comparison is absurd. Cruz is one of two possible candidates for one of the two major nominations by this countries political parties. Its an experience. It has educational elements by its very nature. Undoubtedly many questions about this countries political process and government would be discussed in the following days.

If you're acknowledging the right does it too, then why did you condemn "the left" for it in your original reply?

The fact is, people on both the right and the left have advocated for "safe spaces", if you think only the left does it, you're mistaken

Consider the transgender bathroom issue that's buzzing right now, conservatives haven't stopped crying about it. They want a "safe space" so the trans people don't make them feel uncomfortable

This isn't a right v. left issue, it's an issue between people who don't understand or appreciate the benefits free speech offers. People are free to speak regardless of if it offends you or not. You don't have the right to restrict the speech that offends you. Your attempt at painting this as solely an issue affecting "the left" is disingenuous.

Nobody wants to deport immigrants

Both Cruz and Trump want to deport illegal immigrants

A position that would cost the country billions of dollars

You accused the right of trying to lobby to get what they want. That's what I said the left does also.

What the left has been doing a lot lately, that is much less common among the right is preventing the other from speaking at all. Its really a common left wing tactic.

If Bernie Sanders or Hillary Clinton were set to speak at say, liberty university, a bastion of social conservatives, they would not threaten to walk out of class to get the event cancelled. They might not attend the speech. But they wouldn't try to prevent it from happening.

That's not free speech.

I don't think you'll be able to find Cruz saying he wants to deport illegal immigrants. I've heard him say that was impossible. The distinction here is to deport them when we catch them breaking other criminal laws. But not round ups.

Trump is the one who has said he wants to make an effort to deport them all. Cruz hasn't said that to my knowledge.

No, like I said while providing examples to in the previous post, it's an extreme tactic utilized by both the left and the right

Reasonable people allow free speech to take place regardless of the speech that might be presented

I don't think you'll be able to find Cruz saying he wants to deport illegal immigrants.

He is anti-immigrant what do you think that means he's s not calling for an outright full deportation but he sure as hell not laying out the welcoming mat hence the Bronx cheer.

Self deportation didn't work well for Romney you think Cruz has a better chance?

People in America have voted for career politicians and nothing has been done to give you another reason to vote that way again.

Still they will. Still nothing will be done for you. There`s only one who is not the same ole shit.
