Temperature Fluctuations

Hey everyone first post, so ill start by saying a big thank you to all the people sharing info. A gold mine of resources and advice. Now to my question. I'm set up in a small space. 1 plant under CFL lights. I've set the fan on a timer to come on to exhaust the space for 15 minutes every 2 hrs. This however, drops the temp in the space within 15 minutes, from 26.8c to about 22c. The space then warms up again over a period of 2hrs, and the whole process repeats. I'm at seedling stage. Will this decrease/increase in temps affect the plant negatively ?
Thanks for reading

Thanks for the reply wwrockyou. I had thought about that, or a smaller fan. Was really interested however in what effect constant fluctuations like these might have to the plant overall. Would those fluctuations throughout its growth effect yield size, or plant size? Etc. would it place the plant under to much stress?

26c is to high .........this is 80f in usa terms this temp is for CO2 but at normal temps that is to warm for the thc that forms on the flowers

17c to 24c is where u want to shoot for (cooler then that can cuase the plant to alter pigments and growth patterns hoter u know degrades/decay to other chemicals the thc u are after faster)

Thx justugh. It's only a small space so temp was always going to be an issue. Budget permitting some upgrades might be in order. Does anyone know if constant temp fluctuations, between the temps I mentioned causes the plant stress? I know too hot or too cold is always going to cause the plant to react differently . Any thoughts?

I vote, for running your fan for a longer time....like justugh said---above 84 is just too hot, and you will have issues, your plant will stop up take of nutes... You'll post a picture asking what happened to my plants... HEAT STRESS.... now, very young seedlings/clones can handle a bit more heat, so maybe you're fine if you stop the heat! Run your fan 24/7 and then it will get to the same ambient temp as the room the space is in... You can not exhaust the air cold... so the temp can never go lower than your ambient room temp without an AC, cooler is great... hotter is death...... Good Luck!

Thx Sand4x105 for the info. have read so much stuff re temperature and ventilation, loads of different ideas for what's the right temp range. Will be aiming for 24 degrees 75 F. Thx for the info

here try this idea

find your old tower computer ...........we all have one somewhere caniblize it for the fans ...........u need to find 2 (look on them should see a 6 volt reading ) .........now find a old power cord with a with that inverting thing (like wireless power/cellpower)

u need 2 fans so the 12 volts are used evenly does not burn out ................cheap and it should give u a much better venting/heat removly.....put one down near the middle of the planter lvl(intake fresh cooler air) and the other one high up above the lights (exhust hot used air)

For what it is worth, I have grown in near 100 degree environments (which at the time made more sense than dropping 400 watts out of the lighting system, everything is a compromise).. Keep the air moving and circulated, you'll be fine. Not optimum of course, but what it the world is. Problem is when people start running those kinds of temps and the air is stagnant.. may as well say 'bye bye'.

As for temperature fluctuations, try to avoid them, but that kind of quick temp variance from a moderate temp to just a wee bit less moderate temp, and back again.. plants probably don't care much, heck, they may even like it.. it's like a nice eastern breeze coming in and cooling things down for a bit, happens all the time outside.

Hey 333maxwell thx for the info. I live in Aus where it's real hot through summer. 40+ for days at a time. I have grown outdoor before in these conditions with good success, however this is my first time indoor. I like your idea about the cool breeze. Makes sense to me, I mean these plants are grown in all types of conditions and situations and thrive where you would think there was no chance. So I'm gonna go with the cool breeze theory you provided, because I like it. It makes sense. Thx man. peace
