Just a few questions. I'm looking to start my 1st serious indoor grow.

1st Question, I see alot of people using tents and make-shift grow boxes?? My question is if I have a full basement to use, is there a benefit to making a box.. Isn't the basement itself a box lol? Just curious if having white poly walls or mylar pushed right up against the plants in a tight space is worth me constructing one??

2nd question is I plan on getting a 600hps with cool tube reflector. Any thoughts on how much cfm would be good? Also I see little computer fans that say 230cfm for $30 more or less and then a 230cfm vortex for aprox. $120+ whats the difference?? They both state around the same decibals and movement of air?? I don't understand that.

Lastly, what would the novice growes here recommend for veg and keeping a mother going?? I don't want to use alot of hydro in this area so was thinking about flors/t5's?? would two 4 footers do for 20 clones?? I'm not looking to cut corners but would rather my small budget be spent on keeping the environment at a good temp with good air circulation and lots of light for budding!

an open basement is nice if it is available although you should set up a room inside the actual basement to give your grow room some privacy from others. as far as the difference in the fans is that a computer fan is made for use with computers and are probably made more cheaply since its made of plastic. satisfied?

hey,

people use tents for many reasons:

a) stopping light and capturing smell
b) dividing 1 room into several smaller rooms so you can have seperate veg and flower rooms.
c) easy setup and pack away
d) they're just cool!

you don't need one. you can construct a similar grow box from materials you get at the hardware store

but the idea of a grow room of any sort is to create an environment which is away highly refective, has good airflow and has some kind of filter on the outgoing air.

grow tents are great but do not skimp on fans as air flow is extremely important. i cant stress that enough. i've got a 150CFM fan in a 1.8Mx1Mx1M and i am struggling to keep my temps down using a 600w HPS. i don't have a vented hood though so that would help considerably. just getting it all together slow unfortunately.

oh yeah, basement is fine but you will need to get some mylar or paint it white. don't use foil.

no foil..?? I saw this episode of trailer Park Boys and they foiled everything so i did too!!??

I also could not afford those fancy HID lights so I found a bunch of lite bright's from old 2nd hand stores.. You know the ones where you put in the little plastic pieces to make a colourful picture. Well I took all the blue and yellows for veg, and all the red and greens for my budding room. also there not hot so I don't need any type of cooling!!
