This is my first grow. So please go easy on me.

Grow box is a nightstand with:
2x43w 5600k CFL
2x26w 5600k CFL

More lights will be added when I get the temp down.

The fan is too big for the box, (The only one I had..lol) but I will switch it out when I can get a more suitable one.

The box is still under construction, any comments or suggestions are more than welcome.

This is day one of veg, germ took 3 days.

Here are the pics:

looks good man, nice lil grow you got going.
ill be doing something similar soon coz i have to give up my big growroom due to movin house

but anyway your sprouts look good, remember dont use any nutrients yet,
as this is your fiest grow ill try and get you on the organic growers' side lol... organics are the way to go, get yourself the bio-bizz range of nutes very good!
and also if you can, get yourself some superthrive... its a plant health product used especially on cuttings and seedlings to stimulate fast and healthy root development.

good luck mate

Thanks everyone,

I forgot to mention the germ was in straight peatmoss, I was worried that they
would not germ, but 3 days is all it took. I will transplant into larger pot soon, using 70% Schultz Potting Soil Plus and 30%
peatmoss, with rocks in the bottom of the pot for drainage.

I hope this is sufficient, again any input is welcomed....

TIA

Day 2 and the 5th came up. It is only a day behind the others so no problem.

Everything looks good so far, but I will be transplanting them today.
The peatmoss is hard to keep hydrated so I will be doing the soil mix and I will throw them
into 4" pots.

I will change out my fan today also and try to get my temps down, Im running around 90f right now.

I did add 2 extra lights to the mix and it has not raised the temp much at all so I think after I
get my fans in I can go ahead and add the rest of the lights to the box.

how long do you plan to veg? some 2700k cfl's would be beneficial.

Ring'n you wont be able to grow these plants in a nightstand. You better get a much taller setup constructed before they get out of hand. Good luck though.

Oh and please dont put rocks in the bottom of your pots. Its a myth. It only impedes drainage.

It is still day 2 and the transplant is complete.
I added a new intake fan and cut a larger hole so right now it is a passive exhaust,
I was able to get the temp down to a normal level, around 80f consistently. (The pics show about 85f but I got it down more after the pics were taken)

I found some perlite so I added it to the shultz soil I did however add rocks
in the bottom, (I guess I goofed but I didn't see your recommendation until now DC, I should have checked back before
the transplant, lesson learned lol......) Next transplant no rocks.

I am building a 6' x 4' x 3' cab for flowering and will flower under an HPS w/ CFLs. So hopefully I get some girlies and I dont
screw up too much in the meantime.

Here are some updated pics of the setup:

For Ring'n and anyone else wondering why rocks or anything else at the bottom is bad Im including a couple of links below.

This one is from a lady with a P.h.D in Horticulture, so Id definitely take her word. Check out the rest of her myths. Theres some stuff in there thats useful for us.

http://www.puyallup.wsu.edu/~Linda%20Chalker-Scott/Horticultural%20Myths_files/Myths/Container%20drainage.pdf

This one is from Tapla aka Al over at gardenwebforum. He's an old but smart gardener. Think of him like Uncle Ben except he doesn't grow weed. He's a real smart guy. He also goes into his own soil mix he uses, but Ive tried it and it doesn't retain enough water for our beloved plants. Anyone thats interested in a good discussion about soil, let me know and Ill supply another link.

Hey guy, I just started my first grow last month. It was off to a rocky start and my plants are just now getting up. Look through my journal if you have time. I am looking to build a box similar to yours. I have been looking through the local goodwills for a decent looking dresser to match my furniture. I am growing in my bathroom on the back of my toilet right now and will have to worry about smell soon I think. Are you using anything yet for a scrubber?

A buddy of mine gave them to me, but the package was labeled dope-seeds.com if that helps.... Sorry I dont know for sure.... Thanks for the soil resources, it was a good read.

Like the guys in the thread are telling me, make sure you have the height when you build, my stubby cabinet is already almost too short. I haven't used anything as a scrubber
but I am going to check out your journal....

Thanks for everyones input.

Day 3 and the plants are doing well.
It doesn't appear as if the transplant had any major effects.
The tallest of the seedings is around 1.25" - 1.5" tall
and the others are around 1"- 1.25"

The second set of leaves appeared yesterday (day 2) and are popping out nice.

The lights are low to try and keep the stretch down and so far I think it is working out pretty Ok.

Pics will be posted on day 7.

Well it is day 7.

I changed the light cycle to 20/4 from 24/0 on day 5. Since I did so I have seen more growth than they had during 24/0

I have moved them into a larger space than they were in before, and I have room for expansion in the new space so all is well there.

They did get a little hot in the old space one night due to the heat being left on all night, but they did not suffer too much, just a little tip burn on 2 of them but the others are fine.

I gave them their first good watering yesterday and they soaked it up over night so I gave them another small shot today 2 hours before lights on.

The lights have been raised a bit to eliminate any burn, but left low enough to help eliminate unwanted stretch.

IMO so far so good.

Feel free to comment.
