The ScroGery: Concept for CFL ScroG box.

So I've been bored and high recently and decided to get creative and with thanks to my close friend Zo and his skills with a sweet 3d modeling software called blender we got to crafting a 3d representation of what could be a fun little project.

Was really fun creating the 3d model under Zos awesome tutelage and it was done for the sake of entertainment and learning (I was a noob at blender when I started, still am but learning everyday :D ).

Thought I'd share what we came up with with you guys and gals just to see what you think .

I know, I know... I should use HPS lights and I should have a carbon filter but in regard to the lights I explain why I can't below and with regard to a carbon filter, that's currently under 3d construction prior to my building it lol.

Oh and the gap at the top where reflectors could be placed will be left empty to give good airflow and climate control.

Here's some specs.

Growbox:
450mm x 450mmm x 850mm

Walls will be lined with radiator insulation foil for heat and reflective purposes
( http://alson.in/insulation 4.jpg for a pic to see what I'm on about).

With space for a max of 4 plants, 4 drip traps and 4 scales it's current configuration it is perfect for my needs as 4 plants is a fine amount for me. I'll be putting a mechanical bathroom scale under the drip trap to see if this can be used as a watering guide. Though this won't be the only way I gauge the plants need for water, more of a test to see if it is accurate enough to help at all.

Lights:
I've opted for CFLs for a couple reasons. I yielded a reasonable harvest from my previous grow, I like the limited heat output of a CFL but mainly I can't justify the spend on HPS to my better half and therefore will have to use what is to hand :( lol.

The ScroGery will have 8 x 35 watt CFLs, 6500k and 2700k to be swapped as needed (space for additional lighting on the underside of the screen can be added if needed).

Air system:
Will contain 6 x 80mm pc fans. 2 intake fans situated at the base of the box, 2 exhaust fans situated at the top of the box and 2 internal airflow fans drawing cool air up and facilitating the expulsion of hot air.

Screen:
An adjustable screen frame will be constructed with 50mm x 10mm finishing timber, cut to fit the interior.
32 x 7mm eyelet screws with a hole size of 3mm, 8 per 'bar' at a space of 40mm between each eyelet giving each square a 40mm x 40mm gap, screen to be made with waxed garden twine to facilitate in easy harvest.

Currently in the process of tweaking a variant of the ScroGery in which the box is horizontal allowing for 6-8 smaller plants but with the permitted space I have for now I designed the ScroGery in its erect form... chortle.

Mellowed awesomeness to you all :)

**Edit** After some consideration and a healthy joint I may add a Raspberry Pi system similar to the PiPlanter but with some other modifications and with an LCD display screen attached to the outside of the box.

Not sure yet but i'm considering a secondary and much finer 'mesh' above the lights to be used as a drying rack for drying a harvest this would include several Boveda 62% humidity packs, though I'm not sure these will work.
Don't know if the environment would be too humid in the first place which could lead to bud rot on the drying buds or if a drying rack would increase the humidity levels inside the environment to unacceptable levels. Unfortunate thing about hypotheticals is I have no real test results to view and can only go with speculation for now.

CFLs are a horrible choice

1...the light from a cfl is only good for a about 10 inches
2...u have the lights close to each other the amount of heat they are going to make and maintain is alot higher then u think
3...those fans are going to be to weak for the number of CFLs u have listed

a LED light is a better choice for this the heat from it is nothing less then a t5 .........and u will get better depth into plant this will get u dencer buds and more of them

Instead of Raspberry Pi, LCD screens, sensors, etc... take that money and the money you would put into CFLs and put together a few CXA3070's or Vero 29's. That'll make a way bigger difference in your grow than a controller and blinkenlights.

I know CFLs aren't the best choice but as I said in my OP I'll have to use what I have at hand for the time being :(
Would love to go LED but alas I'm yet to convince my better half that the spend would be justified even though I've sat her down and showed comparative running costs and such, but then again there's always Christmas lol :)
As for the fans, I wasn't quite sure just how much heat would be generated and the unfortunate thing about a project like this is I have no real working knowledge of the above environment, hence why I thought i'd share the idea with you all in the hope I could gather some pre-build info.
I have a few (4 or 5) 120mm high performance I could add/swap in to the mix and could add more exhaust points if needs be. Do you have any recommendations? (baring in mind I can't get away with a big spend (anything £20+) :(
Got the RaspPi, screen and some other bits and bobs for Christmas so that's something I already own and was more of an after thought lol. Oh what crazy thoughts these plants can bring :D
Cheers for the input guys and hopefully I can sweet talk the love of my life into getting me an early Christmas pressie of a decent LED panel or the gubbins to make one, I like the look of those Vero 29s, cheers for that. I was considering asking for a 900w Mars II panel but could possibly make a panel similar and cheaper also giving me another project to tinker with :)

Mellowed awesomeness to you

here is a trick i used

u have a buddy that smokes and u trust (someone that has been tho the shit with u and kept mouth shut) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,tell this friend u are making your own but u need gear .............for a 200 buck investment from them now u will give them OZ at a premit set price of (set the price 250 300 bucks per) when ever u have anything to spare u call them up and give them first crack at it if they do not want it u filled your end of the agreement so u can trade it off to someone else ..........i turned my orginal 600 i saved into 1200 by getting 3 ppl

as for your fan i would think about replaceing it with a 4 inch booster
4 inch booster fan is 80 cfms Plastic fan blades......100 cfm Metal fan blades

as for noise it is not that loud it like a fan in the room blowing air around on low or med

Never thought of asking a friend but I'm trying to stick to the 3 golden rules of Don't tell. Don't smell. Don't sell. Other than this forum only my GF knows about my grow and I want to keep it as discreet in the real world as possible.
By booster fan do you mean the duct type? If so that may be something I'll be picking up in the near future as i'm almost finish the pre design of the carbon filter and the duct fan would work well with what I have designed so far.
How many fans do you feel would suffice if I were to upgrade to the booster fan?
Thanks again
Mellowed awesomeness.
