The True Hermaphrodite (perfect flower)

Most Cannabis plants are dioecious, meaning they have imperfect (male or female) flowers on separate plants. What we growers commonly refer to as a hermaphrodite, is actually called a monoecious plant- male flowers on a female plant- both sexes of imperfect flower on the same individual. A TRUE hermaphroditic flower is a single flower bearing both male and female organs; a perfect flower. This true hermaphrodite is considerably less common in Cannabis plants than monoecious individuals.

I've also never seen a photograph of such an occurrence, so here's mine.

In this closeup, we can see the two feathery stigma atop the shiny, dark, unripened ovary, flanked by the larger "naners" or stamen, all enclosed by the green sepals.

i did see a perfect hermie over on ic, very different looking
was the whole plant perfect hermie, or was it spotty?
i have some some perfects like yours, but not everywhere

It was primarily female... had a couple male inflorescences at a few nodes, consisting primarily of imperfect males, and a few true perfect herms like this. Three clones of the same mother, all did this, so she's trash.

Good for pointing it out as many people assume that pistillate flowers throwing a couple of staminate flowers or vice versa are hermies although they are just predominantly a single sex. Nice pics!

thanks!

Wow... I don't know I would've recognized that on my own. Thanks for sharing. +rep

This post is old and somewhat confusing.....Will those nanners produce pollen? Would it be a single or a few hermie flowers on a mostly female plant? If that's the case then wouldn't it be similar to leaving a female go long and produce nanners? If so would the pollen produced by these nanners make for fairly feminised seeds? Just curious because I like the whole "perfect hermie" concept. Sounds funny. :D :peace:

i don't have any first hand info on this topic, just the 'normal' hermies
i would guess these perfects would have fertile male pollen
regular hermies give you pollen that will make feminized seeds, likely these would do the same
i did see a pic posted of a large perfect hermie, what a freak
