Hi guys


I've been looking into LED grow lights for a while now and there seems to
be a serious difference of opinion on how good they actually are,Can they be
as good as HPS lights.

Now they are obviously a lot more efficient but quite
simply are the capable of growing bid buds?????

Yes, you can grow descent buds with LEDs. LEDs are really expensive, and not quite as good as HIDs. If you're aim is to grow good buds, for the cheapest price, get an HPS. If you are a hobbyist, and have money to burn, go with LEDs. I have done a few grows under a 90W LED UFO, with CFL supplemental, and the bud i got was pretty damn good, and the buds were dense, but the coverage area is only about 2X2 per unit, and it doesnt penetrate too well. The advertisers are spewing bullshit (what else is new?) about the LEDs when they say "equal to a 400W HPS", but they do work.

if you've got lots of money to spend up front, yeah you can get some amazing results from what i've seen and the research i've done

if you don't, well there are some that are not super expensive that could help out as supplemental lighting, you could have your hid up top and have a few panels or spot lights or ufos handle the sides

can they grow buds.. yeah. Good as HPS.... no.

ive used leds and have not had great exp with them, they kidna of remind me of souped up expensive cfls, go with t5s in my opinion, maybe in 20 yrs they will be whats up, but imho the technology just isnt there yet (or to expensive) its like hydrogen cars, everyone wants one but no one could afford em anyways

there are hundreds of threads exactly like yours, so starting another isn't really going to clear it up for you. Few things though, expect to spend 4-10 times what you would for an HID setup, and if you don't do your homework, expect to get ripped off. In short though, yes, LED can compare to (and surpass) HID. The caveat is that out of say 5,000 products you can choose from, 4,980 of them are worthless.

Read every post by irish boy, especially the links he provides for more info. It's quite a realistic look into what's possible with LED, as well as the advantages and disadvantages.

This is a perfect example of my feelings and past experience as well. I grew with 120 watt units, but the rest of the quoted post reflects a "me too".
