so petraus is saying we cant or shouldnt burn the coran? we shouldnt piss off the muslims by burning the coran? really?

so the freedom of speech bothers the good genral?

so the good genral feels that if someone excersies their right to speak that some body may get pissed off so we shoudlnt speak?

i say fuck general patreaus and i will burn my curan........and i wil say fuck the protestors. your country slaughters christians who protest. our country allows anyone to protest. so go fuck your sister....

now dont be offended, i was just exersising my 1st amend rights, which afganies are not given

You would have Christians just as upset if you burned copies of the bible. I don't view it as a right of free speech, I view it as hate speech either way.

This should be pretty straightforward, but just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean it's a good idea. I'm perfectly within my rights to deny that the holocaust ever happened...that doesn't mean that I'm not a moron if I do. The assholes who protest at soldiers' funerals (westboro baptist??) are also perfectly within their legal rights.

And I didn't see that article mention that petraeus or anyone else wants to forbid koran burnings, he's just saying it's stupid and creates a potential threat to our troops...

i'm pretty sure it is the fact that his soldiers may face mortal danger, not our freedom of speech, that bothers the good general.

look, i am just tryingto make you think. if they were speaking up about christianity in afghan. they would be killed. their fears should not be our concerns. they need to move on this, not us. the general needs to tell the dictators that we are allowed to do that. any time. if you dont like it, tough shit live with it. thats the way we roll...unless you like totalitarianism

of course you would. but we do it regularly. we have protected "artist" who bury christ in abottle of piss. but the muslims are upset because a couple whackos want to burn a book? and all the sudden the general says we shouldnt be allowed to speak? really?

general, go fight a war and win. thats your JOB. when i need lessons about freespeech i will see a lawyer

Do you even read the crap you post...?

"There is no question about First Amendment rights; that is not the issue," Gen. Caldwell said. "The question is: What is the implication over here? It is going to jeopardize the men and women serving in Afghanistan."
They're saying it's a bad idea because it puts the troops under their command at risk. That's a pretty good reason to speak out if you're an officer in charge of an already delicate mission.

and thank you for that. ever since the park 51 project hullabaloo, i have not looked at the 1st amendment the same.

this is a great example. i think it should not be stopped, although i would highly encourage the people participating to consider our troops

this only adds fuel to the already big fire. some people should think before exercising their rights. they can now use this as propaganda to enforce their views and increase in number.

i call bullshit. if i want to burn a coran, i will. if you want to protest fine. fuck the fire, do you want freedom or do you want GENERALS telling civilians what they can and cannot do?

it's because of idiots like jeff that americans have a bad rep around the world.

burning a koran won't make you any more american, and i'm sure right after you clean up the ashes, you won't feel any better.

your ignorance towards, and complete lack of respect for other cultures is astonishing.

and 'the general' only said it's a bad idea. because it is. it's a stupid idea, and only the dumbest of the dumbasses are going to take part:roll:

one of the most common recruiting technique is selling the propaganda that americans hate arabs and Islam.

let's prove them right... is that it???

we prove them wrong and they don't have a selling point for getting men to strap on bombs, kill civilians, attack americans...... but no.

that would be the smart thing to do, and idiots know better.

For someone advocating free speech, you sure as hell don't like to hear other opinions that aren't in line with yours.

The point the General was making was that burning Qurans was not a good idea, because all it does is incite Muslims to take up arms against the US troops. The good general has enough common sense to realize that.

Your lack of understanding and difference to other cultures is truly saddening. I'm glad that you do not represent the majority view in America. I have to wonder if your freedom of speech ever got you a busted lip in a bar? I'm sure if you go around telling people to fuck their sister in real life you would quickly form a wiser theory on free speech.....

Don't let the internetz expand your ego beyond your ability to back up your words. Some day you may just regret it at the end.

I support the troops, but I'm not going to let their safety get between me and my koran burning...
