Tieing Plants Down

I have a friend who experimented by tieing his plants down or to the wall the make them grow horizontal and shoot buds straight up. He said the six he did that to (out of his 15) produced had the biggest yield. I have started doing it to a few of mine and the look fine.
Just wanted to hear what you all had to say.
