Is tincture supposed to be green? I’ve tried straining it a couple of times, but it’s still light / dark brown. Is that normal?

If Everclear is used the tincture will be pale green to golden. If 151 rum is used an amber tincture results. Dark green tinctures mean that excess plant material is present. This does not mean that the tincture will not be potent, just taste nasty. When Everclear is used, various flavor extracts may be added (vanilla, raspberry, etc.). Be careful to use only a few drop of flavor extract.

Thank you for the info! I was using 151 grain everclear. Maybe it’s a real dark green instead of brown haha. I use the Magic Butter Machine maybe that’s why

Actually extracts work with Glycerine too but you last sentence is the most important. My first trial of flavoring (peperming extract) I separated a couple ounces to flavor.I just poured a little in the lid and it was like 5 drops, way too much!

Did you decarboxylate your flowers before you started?
If you did, it should be more of a brownish color, if not, it will be green.
I have a Magical Butter Machine, too.
I also use it to make 150 proof tincture.
Ditch the coffee filters, they’ll steal your tincture, by absorbing everything.
Magical Butter has a press, made specifically for what we’re doing, available for around $60 and I highly recommend it.

The trick to this is to use 190 Everclear / Clear Springs grain alcohol. Decarb your bud and break it up in a pint mason jar; I use an ounce. Take another pint jar and put in 8oz of the 190 and place both jars in the freezer overnight. Combine them and gently swirl and return to freezer, swirl again in one hour. Remove at two hours and strain with fine mesh strainer and coffee filter. This will prevent the waxes and chlorophyll from extracting. I take this and concentrate to half volume and make gummis with it. Your tincture will be a dark amber with little weed scent and flavor.
FYI, you cannot concentrate 151 because there is too much water in it and it separates. You can also do another rinse with frozen alcohol ~4oz right after you dump it the first time.
