so when i water, which is like every 3 days or so i usually check the soil wetness with a moisture meter. However i read the other day, that you should water until it flows out the drain holes??? is this correct or should i just contiue with the moisture meter.

Im hand watering into soil based plants.

Thank you

As long as you wait until the soil is dry you will be fine, you wont drown the roots, but if you water too often you could run into problems. I don't water until they overflow with my plants though, I know people do it, I don't know why, maybe to make sure everything is good and soaked, but I just water like a normal person, my plants are fine.

Yes, you don't want dry patches in the soil. The roots will go where the water is and you want them to use every inch of available volume.

I use a moisture meter to make sure that it's dry near the bottom before I water. When I water it's a thorough drenching.

As the roots grow relative to pot size watering becomes more frequent.

i also wonder if im watering correctly... i use a moisture meter to check the bottom for dryness. when i water i water 10 plants in 3 gal pots with a 2 gallon waterer i give each the same amount until the jug is empty . i always get a little water coming out of the bottom but not like a flow or anything . i only water when theyre dry. is this ok

Sounds about like what I do. The way to know for sure is by looking at the roots when they're done. Do you have uniform distribution? Are they strong and healthy? Of course if you're doing really badly, the plants will tell you before that.
