To flush or not to flush.

This is my first grow in soil.

Hey guys, I have 3 plants at 45 days flower right now. Holy Grail 69, Purple Bud and an Afghani. I have been using Ocean Forest soil and GH nutes. I was only able to veg for 3 weeks due to my light taking a shit. Girls are in 3 gallon pots.

Okay, Ive been using GH performance pack. Should I plan on flushing since Ive been using chemicals? Ive read aaaalot on the subject. Im not familiar with soil.

My strains are suppose to finish between 55-70 days. I will start to check the trichomes in about a week.

Feel free to chime in. Thanks

Think about the agricultural industry. They dont "flush", or intentionally leach the soil in their products while theyre trying to ripen do they? The last few weeks the buds are building density and growimg quite a bit in mass and ripening. Impo theres no reason to starve them if you want a quality finished product.
What i do is run lower ppms starting about two weeks before they come down. The food consumption slows twards the end and thats visible if you ever try doing dwc hydro you will see them not eating much in the end of life. So dont waste the food on them right? Just taper down to the last days and it wouldnt hurt to add some molasses in there for some higer brix in the product. I like to cut out nitrogen and calcium for the last two weeks too as much as possible.

Flushing is a huge debate on here. Personally i flush using Flawless Finish for the last 5 days. Smells and burns clean and smooth.
Ya i chopped a couple weeks early right in the middle of of feeding 1050 ppms with no flush a few runs back and mine burnt clean and smelled clean too. Id rather not debate it with you but if you read other threads youll see a white ash and flavor are the result of a proper dry and cure, wich usually take just over two weeks to get. Black ash is usually a result of the weed being too wet still, or being too freshly cut and still being full of non broken down chlorophyll.

As long as you feed well, flushing in my opinion is useless. People say its like a person sticking an iv into their blood stream. There getting clean fluid but its not removing anything, just diluting it. The "clean fulid" is just going to evaporate when you dry it. If your run off ppm is same as your tap you dont need to flush its completely useless. You can basically feed till you cut down your girls.

The part of the plant that holds onto nutes are leaves, anything in the bud is going to stay regardless of how many gallons of water you flush with. If starved your plant will consume itself as you might have noticed (drying leaves starting from the bottom up). To some people this is desired as that means the plant isnt sitting in build up of salts.

But note this, last two weeks is when a plant gains its weight. Do you really want to decrease yield for a myth when you already invested veg time + space + money? A plant will consume leaves even if fed, if you feed while the plant is also pulling nutes and energy from the leaves the buds are always massive.

People who flush, more power to them but most dont understand that a cannabis plant only store nutes in major fan leaves. Most believe that its also in the bud when thats just bull crap. Cannabis could be considered a vegetable as it has the requirements of a protein and amino acids. No vegetable farmer I know of flushes. Yet its debatable that its a flowering plant, but what flowering plant do you know of that people flush? Tobacco? Never once have I heard of a farmer flushing tobacco. Look to the people who make millions yearly because they considered the health of product by strict regulations and also the cost to produce it.

I can tell ya from my experience but nothing else. Ive fed chemicals in soil when I was starting out, even flushed a plant or two but one thing that remained consistent is the extent to which I trim. I have found no noticeable difference between a flushed and unflushed plant as long as the trim job is done completely and all leafy material is removed. The difference was in the plants. They really do eat the heck out of themselves during a 2 week flush and I think it may hurt yield but again my .02. Now I'm in organics so no flush for me. My family have been farmers since before we started recording family history (mid 1500s is as far back as the family bible goes) and not once have they flushed a crop of veggies or a crop of tobacco. In fact rich soil lends itself to a better flavored tobacco.

Also there's a huge difference in doing a one day heavy watering to remove excess salts and flushing for two weeks. Definitely flush salts out of the soil 2-3 times during a grow in soil when using chemicals but I do not recommend a 2 weeker.

My bad guys. Didnt mean to upset anyone with another flushing post for my particular grow. Ive read hundreds of posts on this topic with so many mixed opinions. So far everyone that has posted seem to say dont flush but 90 percent of the topics I read say a 10-14 day atleast. I was set on flushing but you guys who posted are changing my mind. Thanks guys.

No worries, are you using the lucas formula by any chance? the 0-8ml-16ml?

I personally use the lucas formula with great success and if you use the lucas formula you dont need to flush, the PPM with lucas formula and cal mag is around 1050 for me as my tap is roughly 300ppm. But great choice on nutes, GH is the stable of all hydro feed they've been around for 35 years now and they know what there doing.

Older posts state flush just because thats what everyone said basically. Thankfully we now know better questioning if it really does make a difference or not.

Ive been using 10 ml Micro, 15 ml Bloom, 1 ml Floralicious Plus per gallon of Distilled water ph'ed to 6.5. I ran GH trio on my last DWC and didnt have any problems. I figured Id give soil a shot because I heard it was easier and tastes better. I guess Ill find out soon lol

Thats exactly what I'm using in soil but with a sweetener and a pk booster at half strength haha, But yea you don't need to flush at all when using the lucas formula, The ppm or salt content isnt high at all unless you've been messing with the ratios, I would just recommend feeding up to 7 and 1/2 weeks and then flushing with some water and cutting them down.

But I personally do a feeding and then a watering. I never feed back to back unless I'm in week 5-7 when they actually can use the extra nutes.

Hey those plants look very healthy. At what time did you start feeding with GH nutes?
