My buddy uses a similar one but it's a CAN fan or at least by the same company. I'd have more faith in one of the name brand fans as opposed to the one you have listed...sorry, just never heard of it personally. My buddy's has temp./speed control too. I know that's an all in one but you may want to compare prices on a regular inline fan and a separate temp./speed controller to see if that's any better. Make sure whom ever and which ever equipment you decide on is able to be returned/replaced in case anything goes wrong with it.

EDIT: You can get a quality 8" fan for under $100(U.S. dollars) and this Titan Mercury 4 at around $80. What's the currency exchange right now...not sure what's available over in the U.K. but I have to think 2 tried and proven components like this would be a better deal if the pound is about a 2:1 ratio to the U.S. Dollar. Not sure though...you guys have diff. voltage over there too.

Mercury 4
The Mercury 4 - Day/Night Multi-Funtion Fan Speed controller puts the grower in complete control of their ventilation requirements. Plug your ventilation equipment into the Mercury 4, set the high/low fan idle speed, set the day night mode and your in business! Great for use with carbon filter ventilation systems. Things just grow better with Titan Controls.
  • Allows grower to select minimum fan idle speed between 25% and 60% of fan rating
  • Enables the user to activate/deactivate 'low temperature' safety feature
  • Perfect for use with carbon filter ventilation systems
  • Temperature control range is 55°F to 95°F
  • Six (6) foot temperature probe is accurate to within 2°F
  • Plastic enclosure protects internal components from dust and moisture
  • 6 Amps/120 Volts/60 Hz.
  • 3 year warranty

Generally Amazon is a reliable place for equipment that can be returned. However, an 8" fan is way too big for a tent that size. I run a 5" fan in the same size tent as yours and it sucks the sides of the tent in even with vents open.
A few tips to help you keep the heat down, run your light cycle at night time, and have your plants sleeping during the hottest part of the day. Keep your room outside your tent cool if you can, pop a few windows etc.

The next step would be to get an air con unit. Spend your money on fixing a problem directly, not hoping that more air cycles will drop temp. Just remember, if your plants are small, and you are vegging with Metal Halide, you just wait till you pop a Sodium bulb in there in a few weeks for flowering, it is only going to get hotter. Remember to keep an eye on water consumption too, plants are like people and will drink more when its hot.

They both gave good advice. It usually comes down to a budget. I just bought a Danby dual hose A/C-heat-dehumidifier for $439 USD delivered (in U.S.)...13,000 BTU (inside the tent) to cool down a 8x8 tent with 2 600 watt bulbs and 2 250 watt CFL. I will be using a 6" CanFan and filter for extracting air thru the air cooled reflectors and out of the tent, thru a garage window, and into the wild blue yonder. The veg tent (attached) is 5x5.

thanks for your answers so far guys. I cant open any windows in the room ive sealed it exept for the door all the windows are hevily insulated by celotex to avoid detaction from copper choppers so the only fresh air comes through the door from the rest of the house . im from the uk wich means air con should not be a nessesity as our outside temps are rarley hot enough to harm plants so I wa hoping air intake would be ok without air con. is anyone else i. agreement that 8" is to much for my tent? it can always be turned down? im of the opinion generally with most things overkill is usually the best way to go ie id rather have a fan thats slightly to powerfull that can be turned down as opposed to a fan thats a bit to small. as you said about your 5inch sucking i. the sides of the tent this is good to a certaion point means air will be exchanging as fast as possible keepin aing fresher and temps lower. im not opposed to the idea of modding my tent either to allow cooler air in the bottom. maybe lots of small pieces of hose pipe all round the bottom edge? sorry if this post is a bit higgulty piggulty but im out walking my dog....hes just found a poo covered in flies and is having the time of his life chasing them round as always cheers for your repplies guys knowledge is power feeeed meeeee :-)

i.should also mention that i.have a large attic space i.plan on venting heat to.

Venting into the attic is fine. I agree an 8" fan is too much. Beware of negative pressure. The 4" should be adequate especially if you secure it so that is your primary source of venting into the attic. It should pull air from under your door..I think, anyway.
Good luck!

i wouldnt worry about copper choppers mate. they dont exactly go around burning fuel on the off chance they will catch someone growing a few plants in a spare room. it isnt cost effective. i would worry about someone finding out and grassing you up. specially someone with a grudge =)

air con units are expensive atm because of this crazy early hot weather we have had. my babies are sitting at 29 degrees atm. have had to make a few changes to try and get the temp down. but you might want to at least get a few fans inside the tent. remember heat rises so try and draw the cooler air from the bottom to the top.

btw, your current fan/filter, you have the extraction point at the top of the tent right?

hey green troll ive got two fans in the tent to aid air circulation ones quite powerful and the other smaller one assists it. yeah I know about hot air rising ;-) lol. I just over compensated with the celotex to keep my mind at rest my setup looks pretty stealthy n cool noones gotta clue.... lol I only have passive air extraction atm. all the little hole openings are open wide and the loft hatch above is open... thats why I wanted new fan to actually suck hot air out. so is general consensus that 8ins is too big for my setup? thought it would be ideal as I could turn it up and down 4inch sounds small lol any more for anymore?

So you have a tent in a sealed room. What you need to do is bring in and exhaust to somewhere other than the sealed room. Your exhaust fan is a must, and I'd get the size that matches the openings in your tent. If you have a 6" opening then get a 6" fan, then you won't have to deal with any adapters. If you can have this exhaust duct draw through your light hood, that would be a bonus. And by all mean exhaust this fan to the attic if possible.
Now if you can get a passive intake from another room in the house or outside you'd probably have the heat whipped. Best would be if you could get a 2nd fan and run a duct from an outside source into the tent.

the exhaust holes have drawstrings that open as wide as 8inch but can be closed too. my hoods not vented but could run ducting down to it. I like the idea of a second fan pushing cold air in so all thats set to decide is the size of exhaust fan if people think 8 is too big maybe 6inch? thanks everyone for your answers
