Too much heat, or other issue?

you might want to try to add either a bigger airpump or another air stone. even if the water level is too high, if you have enough bubbles in the water, it "shouldn't" be a aproblem with the water level above the netpot.

something to try on this grow or for you next run.
This is the air pump I have for running 2 buckets. I have the other 2 ports hooked up to the top drip. I definitely could add another airstone. Is this pump too weak with just 1 stone?

i like running a dual outlet pump (with a control for each outlet) per each waterfarm that i have. one outlet for airstone, one for drip ring. like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Penn-Plax-Air-Pod-Air-Pump-Up-gallon/dp/B003DHYB52/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1518469670&sr=8-4&keywords=penn+plax+air+pump

with those 4 or 6 outlet pumps, the pump is going to put out the most air to the outlet with the least resistance. so if your airstone has more resistance than your drip ring, the airstone will suffer while the drip ring gets more air.
