Topping and leaves

I have a few questions concerning topping that i am confused about. not my first time topping just trying something different this time.

1. why exactly do you want to top later at say 4-5 nodes in? is it strictly just due to recovery time?
2. Has anyone ever seen a difference from topping at say the 4th, 5th, or 6th nodes as far as growth/yield goes?

3. does the number of leaves coming out corelate to the plants health? for example in my past grows i noticed my plants would produce 3 tipped fan leaves for some time before going into 5 then 7 then 9 but with my current grow they only produced 1 set of 3 tipped fan leaves and are going straight into 5. this grow is a lot healthier compared to my past grows but im not sure if it's just due to strain.

first grow was mystery seed i think it was GG 2nd grow is Blue widow this grow is strawberry cough. they are also producing side branches at an extremely early rate then what i've had in the past as well.

1- have no idea really

2- I topped right above the 3rd node once. Was a little bit slower but caught up eventually. Yield was average. Other plants untopped produced a little more in my scenario. Again, I'm not really sure why we we're told to wait for more nodes. Quicker recovery?

3- Yes! 1 to 3 to 5 etc. If your plant produces less fingers than the previous set in veg, there might be a problem. I would guess watering practices if the plant is overall healthy

im trying to figure it out because with my blue widows i topped early i topped at the 3rd node they didn't show signs of stunt and actually had no side branches formed UNTIL i topped which formed the very next day. and i was talking about the blue widows with my current grow im toning it down with watering a little but tricky since im using a different medium and it acts totally different from my last by holding much more water and drying out faster. with the blue widows i used something similar imo to what i used in my first grow.

first grow i used FFOF had the same issue didn't hold much water with tons of run off and took forever to dry out. blue widows i ran Roots Organic Original slightly better when it came to drying out but still had moisture issues. this grow same scenario almost but using pro mix HP 1gal for small plants in 3 gal pots no issues and no run off. well heat issues due to light being to close but thats all i really see the growth is just fucking amazing for me thus why i asked #3 i dont know if strain issue or just a health issue.

im debating on topping at 4th node but 5th as well plants are kinda short thats why for Sativa dominant hybrids. never grew sativa dominant hybrids before one of my blue widows looks like a sativa pheno i am trying to get the most out of my plants this run and reduce as much stress as i possibly can
