Topping clones

Wen is the best time to do this wen they are in the 1 gal pots? Or the permanent pots? I was going to tramsplant them wait a few days then top...or should i do it in the 1 gal pots then transplant?

Top 2 weeks before repotting or 2 weeks after to be safe.
