Trichomes....cloudy to amber ration?

So I've been looking at trichomes with a 30X jewelers loupe. I've noticed that they have begun to start turning amber. I'm thinking of waiting till about 20-25% are amber before I harvest. Is that a good percentage of amber or should I wait till about half have turned? What do you prefer?

25% should be good. The idea isn't so much that the Trichs have turned amber so much as you want the rest of the trichs that are clear to start turning cloudy/amber. Amber is when the THC is starting to degrade into CBD/CBN, etc. If you could have all trich cloudy/opaque at the same time that would be perfect, but its not how it works.

Personally, I take it down now. If you've got 90% milky, 5% clear and 5% amber (what I estimate to be the case when I see the first tinge of amber), then your plant is done. Milky means ready. Amber means degrading THC. Clear means not ready yet. You'll never have 100% milky, but the first tinge of amber to me means it's ready to go. If you do a slow dry (7-10 days), there will be more degrading (further ripening, like fruit off the vine) and you'll end up around 10% amber. That's perfect. The strain you're going will determine the high you get.

Hate to high jack this thread just wanted to get a opinion on if i should give her 48 hours of dark before harvest i heard it could help with the trichomes? more thc or fatter buds?

There has been research to show that the resin will increase because of this, but I believe it is negligible. You probably won't notice it.

I tried that with several plants. I doesn't do anything.
It took @60 days or so to flower, 2 days of dark isn't going to do anything magical. How can it?
The reason the plant has trichromes is to protect the calyx and keep it viable. You'd be further off putting your plant in a drought condition. She'd pump more resources to the flower cluster trying to keep her calyx viable. But this all takes time. You'd probly have to keep her in drought for a week or two to see any results.

Thanks for all the info everyone. I was also wondering about the "lights off" period. I've only read a paragraph from a study done in Europe about the "lights off" increasing potentcy. But, like I said I only read a paragraph, and with out reading the whole study I have no idea how big the study was.

As far as haversting goes, I think I'm going to wait a few more days, as the amber I see is only on the top of the main cola of each plant, and I'd like to some amber on some of the lower buds before I start trimming. I'm thinking friday.

Typically when someone starts shooting off their mouth and using vulgarity I tend to take what every they say with a grain of salt. However, you mentioned a few things I found interesting.

#1 CBN is not desirable....why? I was under the impression the CBN and CBD have good medicinal properties
#2 12hours of dark to get the starch out....why? I was under the impression that sugars and startches were used by the plant(s) to produce their fruits and/or flowers.

What happens in the curing process?

When the stem buds are cut they are still live plants. They contain a lot of moisture, chlorophyll, sugar and starch. During the cure process the sugar and starch are converted by the plant into THC. There is a thread in RIU that shows plant material, not cannabis, picked at the end of the day and at the beginning of the day. Plants at the end of a light cycle have more undesirable starches.


If you want to let your buds rot and then pick them at the end of a light cycle for more starches, go for it.

Rotten plants. I don't think rotten is the right word

rotten-suffering from decay
decay-(of organic matter) rot or decompose through the action of bacteria and fungi.

I see no rotten bacteria or fungi on my amber "rotten weed plants" LMAFO no such thing as rotten weed plant unless it has some damn mold on it.

If CBN is garbage, why does your body have receptors for it. The medical value is there.
