Trimming your plants during flowering good or bad?

Does any body trim there :leaf: during the flowering stage. I don't and get great results. But have been told and even read some post on trimming all your big leafs to focuse all energy towards the buds.. I would think this would take away from the buds growth, do to trying to heal the cuts.. If anyone has some advice please tell.. Could I be getting more Chronic if i trim my leafs? Peace.... Thanks......:bigjoint:

your big fan leaves are what draws in energy to the plant. It doesn't make much sense to trim the source of life for your nuggets, you have the right idea.

Thats a great question to ask Ed Rosenthal... Know him? If you dont, i suggest looking him up and reading everything he has to offer. He's pretty knowledgeable about this stuff.

Acording to him....... let me find that article, hold on a minute.

Ask Ed:
Question:
Should fan leaves be picked during the flowering stage so that lights penetrate lower areas or do fan leaves bring in energy to the flower?

Eds response:
Buds grow and mature when exposed to bright light. Buds that are shaded remain small. For this reason it pays to remove fan leaves thats are blocking light. Fan leaves that are not in the way contribute sugars to the plant so they help growth.

Aside from the top canopy, which consists of larger buds in direct contact with the light source, ........................

article goes on to the second level of canopy and does not apply to original poster of this threads question so i'm saving the carpel tunnel and not typing the whole thing.

But this should help a bit, just cut the ones that are blocking light on lower buds is what i'm taking from his response.

speaking from experience, DONT cut ANYTHING off in flowering, not only does it stunt growth, but can make the plant mature rapidly ( 80% amber trikes at 6 weeks!!) and then u have to clip and it NEVER filled out. ALL BAD.

i only trim them if they are dying. but i do tri off small bud site at the bottom of the plant. they really dont produce much. i did one grow where i topped the plants 2x each and removed all other shoots. the end result was 4 colas and thats it. it yielded the same as when i left the plants with out trimming at all. the only difference was i had all big buds and no punny fuss balls at the base.

i have had it stunt the growth as as well. but the entire plant produced more than any other in the grow. and i had her propped up with phone books and styrophome so she could be at the top of the canopy.
