Trouble Raising Humidity

I have just cropped out my first few plants and they are currently hanging in a closet. The problem though is that the relative humidity in the closet is staying around 10-15%, even though I have put trays of water along the bottom of the closet, tried putting a fan blowing onto the trays, and even tried putting a bucket of water with an air stone inside the closet to raise the humidity. None of these seem to be working in the slightest to bring the humidity up to the 45-55% that I read is ideal.

Does anyone understand why these techniques would not be raising the humidity at all? Or could somebody recommend a better way to raise humidity in a small closet, preferably without buying a humidifier?

Thanks a lot,

Justin Hail

Take a metal ( preferably coated with plastic) or plastic rod and hang a cloth so the Bottom Edge of the cloth (absorbent cloth like dish towel) is in the pans of water. Let the fan blow on the cloth. The cloth will wick the water up, and the fan blows across it making the RH rise. Or get a cheap humidifier from your local dept store.

boil a pot of water, and set it in the room while it steams... i did this to make a ghetto humidifyer when i was sick.

I tried the towel and fan and it lowered the humidity to 8%, i think because it increased airflow and my towels are not very absorptive. The steam does not seem to be working either, which makes absolutely no sense to me, since steam seems like it should absolutely raise humidity. I don't understand this at all, so I think I'm going to get another humidity gauge. Thanks for your help though guys!

Boil a kettle a couple times the steam will add humidity quickly just watch the temp although if you are just drying / curing buds not much to worry about.

DO NOT PUT IT DIRECTLY UNDER YOUR BUD - OFF TO THE SIDE PLEASE

Do you mean that you're done with your grow and the plants are hanging up in the closet...DRYING? If so, I see absolutely no problem with the humidity level where it's at. The last thing you want to do to buds is ADD humidity to them. That's a sure way to give some mold a chance to start growing. As long as there is a small fan in there circulating the air, WITHOUT blowing directly on them, they should be fine. When they are dry enough, start curing them. That's the key to some awesome smoke. Best of luck bro.
