Unclebuck's winter wonderland

howdy everyone!

have been starting to re-dedicate myself to the indoor grow now that the outdoor is all over and done with.

i have some serious and major problems in there, as i neglected it all for about a month while trimming the outdoor stuff. most of my plants were left in the greenhouse too long and started to flower, so i am fighting like hell to re-veg them.

i have some clones that look to be back in vegetative state, so they are going to go into a flower layer today. i'm headed out to pick up a 400 watt ballast right now. once i get home, i have to do some cleaning, wire up some fans, and hang the light.

will be documenting the progress for my own sake as well as others, similar to hazo's grow. the difference: hazo is much more professional than i am at the moment. let's hope i can catch up to him again.

any questions, comments, suggestions are welcome. pics to follow later tonight, i will snap some throughout the day.

Subbed up and ready for the long winter haul! I cannot wait to see what you come up with! By the way, I think you are probably light years ahead of where I am in knowledge and practical experience. Just sayin. I have my harvest ready if you ever want to meet up at Cannabis Cafe, and have a coke and a smile, and compare notes.....haha.

this is a leftover project from spring/early summer that i never got around to.

for ventilation in my small cabinets/chambers, i use simple PC fans. all of the intake, exhaust and a few ventilation fans are already wired up, as you can see.

CIMG2237.JPG

these are all wired to one single power source, a 12 volt adapter that can handle 1.5 amps. this power source has no more room on it for the two extra ventilation fans i am adding, so i will need to use a new one.

key rule here: the power source must be able to handle more than the fans give it, otherwise it will burn out. for example, the two small fans i am wiring are both 0.13 amps, and the power source i am using is rated to 0.3 amps, so we are good.

here is what they look like before wiring:

CIMG2236.JPG

and here are the tools we need to do this project:

CIMG2235.JPG

start by deciding where you want the wires to join up, and measure out the lengths of wire you will need to splice on. ALWAYS leave an extra foot of wire. this has saved me MANY times.

next step is to use that marker to mark your positive and negative wires. positive is usually black, so i put a black stripe down my wire. negative is usually red or white or has some such marking, like this:

CIMG2241.JPG
CIMG2238.JPG

now that everything is labeled, it is time to splice them together. i prefer butt splices to wire nuts for a project like this, it helps keep the wires more tidy:

CIMG2242.JPG
CIMG2240.JPG

simply strip the ends of the wires, slip them into the butt splice, and crimp down with some locking pliers as tight as you can. after, pul on each end (gently) to make sure they are locked in.

at this point, we measure out to our original point and join them all up with wire nuts. plug it in and check for functionality.

CIMG2243.JPG

one key point about wire: i had to buy wire since the wires on these fans and adapters were not long enough. when buying wire, you can always go up in size, but you can NEVER go down in size. so bring a section of wire with you when buying any so you can make sure that you buy a similar or larger gauge, and never a smaller gauge. if you buy a smaller gauge, your wires will overheat and your fans will be intermittent (and dangerous).

next sep will be to thoroughly clean and bleach the grow area and hang lights. i will not document that part, as it is simple stuff to sweep out dirt and spray a 1/4 bleach solution and let it dry. hanging lights is just as simple and there are a million ways to do it.

after that, i will be picking out my 8 best clones and transplanting. i may document that part, or just give you all a shot of the completed days work.

stay tuned.

almost forgot one key part: cleaning out old containers.

cleanliness is godliness when growing indoors, so don't skimp at all.

i have my old containers outside. first step is to rinse out all the main dirt. then they come inside and take a bath in boiling hot water and dish soap. after that, they go back outside for a bleaching. after you bleach, rinse THOROUGHLY. a little bleach can cause a lot of bad. then, to cover all your bases, bring them back inside for another scalding hot bath with dish soap. rinse them one last time with hot water and wipe dry.

this may seem a bit excessive, but if nothing else it eliminates one variable: possible dirt/mineral buildup from past grows (as well as germs, mold, mildew, bacteria, fungus and the like). you can NEVER be too clean with an indoor grow.

the ones i put in last night are blueberry, new york city diesel, and star trek. they are small right now, and just getting back to re-veg. i plan on leaving them under 24 hours for another week or two until i am satisfied that they will flower well. this is my first go around with these strains.

i have a dozen other strains that you will see being flowered over the winter.

didn't do much today, just neemed all my clones and the ones i transplanted yesterday. i will likely stick 6 more into a flower layer tomorrow and let them veg for a while as well.

i am unable to upload pics, my iphoto keeps crashing.

i put another 6 in "flower" (they need to veg out a little first).

now i have been spending my time pruning back these plants that refuse to re-veg. just cutting off buds from branches and leaving the newest growth on there. we'll see if this works or if i am wasting my time. wish i could post some pics of how ugly some of these plants look right now.

seems like my camera is working again. will probably upload some photos tonight or tomorrow. things are coming around slowly.

i have a cabinet of blueberry flowering and looking great (minus one single leaf :cuss: ) and some NYCD and startrek in the other that i just flipped the switch on to 12/12.

also have a couple baskets of clones rooting and a whole bunch more to take off my pathetic old plants.

some revegging has occurred on the real scrappy ones, but it is slow as hell to happen. have to transplant some clones in dixie cups to one gallon pots tonight, but waiting for the wife to get out of the bath first so i can wash the containers.

wow, i suck at this whole documenting my grow thing :(

i have everything pretty much how i want it for now though, so i have to take pictures tonight at midnight when the lights go on.

the blueberries are in full flower and only 2 weeks or so away. i have shifted around some of the star treks and NYCDs and also added some WMDs to flower. i'm going to try to shift a few more around to make room for a few more star trek and NYCDs.

all of my ugly old mothers have been scalped down for clones and fed very well, so they all look nice again. the many plants i was working to reveg have been totally cleaned up and now look like healthy, normal plants (well, maybe a little yellowing but no alien leaves).

the clones are rooted and ready to be transferred to soil tonight.

feels good being at this point again, kind of like being on cruise control now. all i have to worry about is watering/feeding, harvesting, and moving plants around as they get ready. i'm finally recovered from my outdoor trimming hangover.

Just in time to trim some indoor plants! Glad to hear things are under control at Casa Uncle Buck!

will post my spaces one at a time.

800 watts, 9 plants. 7 are blueberry which are almost ready, also might have a star trek and NYCD in there. the plants get shuffled around as they grow to make space for newer ones.

well, glad this is done. in the next few days i have to clean the house and chicken coop and water the shit out of all these before i leave for the holidays down to warmer locales.

when i get back near new years, it is time to harvest again. i really miss harvesting. you really tend to fall in love with something after doing it for 12 hours a day for a month in a row (that's what she said?).

anyhoo, hope you enjoy. ask any questions you want!

long time, no see.

it is still autumn, but i am re-gearing for a good winter crop earlier than last year.

here is some star trek that i harvested tonight. it was a little over-ripe as far as i am concerned.

if i had my way, i would have harvested while there was still a white hair or two.

this is not skill, this is neglect. i have had to prioritize shit and harvesting took a backseat for a week too long.

let's hope for more bad harvests like this as winter goes on.
