URGENT: Smashed a CFL liquid burned a hole in my carpet!

Just smashed one of these energy saving bulbs and the white liquid inside as burned a big hole in the carpet.. Now I'm a little scared to pick it up.

Also wanted to know if it gives of any dangerous vapours or anything?

That shit is mercury. Do not pick it up with your hands... Very poisonous if ingested.

There is a 22 step HAZMAT procedure for cleaning up the stuff once you break a bulb...

Green energy FTW.

Liquid? you must have older cfls or cheap ones, I've broken more cfls than i care to admit, i mean like ALOT. lol, and they only had that white powder from in them that doesnt effect anything like yours. From what i understand newer cfls have gotten safer on this subject.

yah, i'm with dark on this one.. big suprise there eh dark, lol.. i have also broken a few cfl's in my time, and i only had the same white powder stuff come out of them, no liquid or anything like that.. very odd indeed...
would you happen to be a brit or canuck? not sure how their cfls may differ from the us's..

Is mercury safe to be around? as in its ok as long as I dont eat it?

i think its relatively safe so long as you don't get any on your skin and obviously don't ingest any of it, lol... maybe google how to clean a mecury spill or what to use to dilute mecury and you may find an easy and safe way to get rid of most of the bad stufff.. maybe, lol..

As a kid we would find the 4 foot bulbs in the trash an throw em like javalins an sword fight with em.
It was awsome an it didnt kill me.

well it wasnt a liquid as in.. water or anything.. very dense and had no movement to it was so ever.. i guess it could of been a powder...
