Using a Selkirk chimney as a vent.

I am building a grow room in my pole barn. I have the basic construction and insulation details pretty well worked out. I am in a legal state, and intend to stay legal. But I don’t want to advertise what I am doing, I don’t want t make myself a target. I am thinking of installing a wood stove chimney, and using that as my exterior vent. It would not look out of place up here, there are lots of guys who have wood stoves in their workshop, give them a place to go. I know I can get 6 inch pipe easily, I might be able to get 8 inch, if I need it. I live in a rural area, my nearest neighbors are 500 ft away. I guess the question is, does anyone see a problem with using this matieral?

I bet you can figure out a better way, well less expensive. And I bet humidity will freeze at the top........= not a stove pipe. But I don't have experience with the pipe in other uses, only chimneys.

Oh, it'd work just fine. But at $150 a 4' section (where I am for 6") I agree with Darkweb, there's definitely a cheaper route. Throw a $5 dryer vent up and camouflage it on the outside. Put something in front of it, spray paint it, etc..Get stoned and think outside the box, friend( just dont get too elaborate and spend too much) :p

Dump the exhaust out a drier vent behind a bush. Good filter if your worried about smell.

I did think that it would get frosty at the top, but maybe not enough to be noticed? I don’t like dumping it into the structure, I think I’d have moisture issues. You’re right on cost, I should find a cheaper way. I could probably build a 6 inch dryer vent, I’ve done a bit of tin bending. ( retired tool& die maker)

homedepo lowes sells a 6 in dryer vent hood with a flapper under 20 bucks

It's not a lot of moisture.....nothing like a bathroom or a clothes dryer........i have a dehumidifier set up but it hardly turns on and in the winter my wood heat keeps everything almost to dry. Plus if it's vented to outside the air has to be replaced.........so where will that come from?
