using dna to sex cannabis

i realize few of us have the access to a lab to actually extract dna from our plants, but i am wondering if it is in fact possible? i remember going on field trips to labs and extracting dna from onions and i am wondering if there is a similar process which would help us identify the sex of a plant. does the nature of rampant hermaphroditism in weed indicate that this is not possible? i am no scientist so i apologize if this is an idiotic question or if it has been brought up already. when i google it i only get stuff about dna genetics seeds and some new study about weed altering human dna. and if this were possible, would it apply during veg as well or only after flower when the plant gets all "hormoney"? i would tend to believe that if the sex of a plant is as pre-determined as so many of us believe it is we should be able to see it under a microscope. what do you think? should i lay off the weed or what?

no one? lol is this one of those deals where the question is so dumb that no one will touch it out of politeness? or maybe it's something that there is just not much info about? i was all jazzed up about finding some badass botany nerd with all the answers...

im sorry to say, but most scientists have careers that take up their time and they are generally interested in other hobbies than illegaly growing pot :)

One of my friends researches DNA. He used to work at MIT and then Duke University and now he heads up a DNA research facility in the Miami area and he has said that theoretically once cannabis plants DNA has been fully researched and understood that DNA splicing could one day be performed and strains could be tailor made.

The way he put it into simple English was DNA is a chain of instructions telling plants what to do and to do it in certain amounts to certain degrees at certain times. Theoretically DNA could be added in certain locations in a chain and or other DNA removed and cannabinoids could be controlled as wanted.

The thing is right now scientists do not fully understand all cannabinoids and how they interact and react with other cannabinoids. It is not only a matter of increasing THC since other cannabinoids are known to, and for others believed to increase or decrease and or alter the effects of THC making one strain that might have a lower THC rating more potent than one with a higher THC rating.

Until cannabis is fully understood such advanced forms of strain creation will have to wait and only remain theoretical.

I would believe sex could most certainly be determined by the study of its DNA. I am sure the question has been posed before and has answers. Franco from GHS, could most likely give you an answer. Sorry I have nothing better for ya buddy...
